As reported last week, the next Battlefield game will be called Battlefield V and it will feature a World War II setting. Since this leak, a number of rumors have been swirling about the upcoming game, with one even claiming that its story will follow the German side of the conflict.

However, according to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, this is not the case. On the contrary, Battlefield V's story will be similar to that of Battlefield 1's, with the campaign taking place across a variety of locations and time periods during the war. Each chapter will focus on the exploits of a different character, which should allow DICE to tell multiple stories with plenty of gameplay variety.

Since Grubb is the person whose sources initially leaked the game's setting and title to him, his information is more reliable than unverified claims from YouTubers. However, just because Battlefield V won't exclusively be exploring the German side of World War II, that doesn't mean one or two of its story campaigns won't feature a German soldier as a main character.

Even though this information comes from a reputable source, players should still wait until EA and DICE properly reveal Battlefield V before getting too excited about any news on the game. Luckily, the wait for a reveal shouldn't be too long, considering Battlefield V is scheduled to release this year.

In fact, we already know that EA and DICE are working on a trailer for Battlefield V, so the game should be announced within the next couple of months. If it's not revealed by May, then fans can count on Battlefield V having a significant presence at EA's E3 2018 press conference this coming June.

When Battlefield V does have its proper debut, it will be interesting to see how accurate all this leaked information on the game is. For example, will the game have a co-op mode like leakers have suggested? Will the story follow the German side of World War II at all? Is the game's setting even World War II? These questions and more should be answered sooner rather than later.

Battlefield V is in development for unspecified platforms.
