EA and DICE are set to formally announce Battlefield V later this week, officially revealing the game's setting and offering the first look at multiplayer gameplay. In the run-up to the May 23 event, the companies have been teasing the game with brief trailers and promo art. A new piece of promo art has shown up on PS4 and it appears to hint at weapons, characters, and gameplay.

PS4 players report that they have seen a Battlefield V event notification, reminding them of the announcement that's taking place on May 23. As well as noting the date and time, the event notification also features what appears to be the Battlefield V cover art. Using a program called affinity photo, one Battlefield fan was able to remove the PS4 UI from the image, giving players a closer look and allowing them to better identify features in the image.

Several Battlefield fans have said that upon closer inspection, it seems as though the soldier in the image is wearing an M192 paratrooper outfit. That's judging by the straps on the soldier's legs and his baggy pockets. This has led some to suggest that Battlefield V could include a mission where players get to infiltrate a location by air. Operation Market Garden is a famous, but unsuccessful Allied military operation that saw paratroopers land in the Netherlands, and it's possible that the game will allow players to take part in this.

Other fans have also been able to identify an M1 Carbine and an M1911. The M1 Carbine was a standard firearm for the United States military in World War 2 and has been a staple of many shooters set during the conflict, so fans are understandably glad at the (apparent) confirmation that the weapon will feature in Battlefield V as well. The M1911 pistol, meanwhile, has been around since the early 20th century and is still issued to law enforcement agencies in the United States. Again, it is a popular weapon that fans are excited about.

While the speculation from fans does sound plausible, they will have to wait until May 23 for EA and DICE to officially lift the lid on Battlefield V and either confirm or deny the information gleaned from the promo art. The companies will hopefully address speculation regarding the game's rumored battle royale mode, cosmetic microtransactions, and a whole lot more.

Battlefield V is set to be officially revealed tomorrow, May 23, 2018.
