When Battlefield V developer DICE confirmed that the game would feature a battle royale mode, fans were mixed. Some accused the developer of just jumping on the bandwagon, following the success of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Many more were concerned by the lack of information on offer about the game mode.

While DICE isn't yet ready to reveal all about the mode, a brand new Battlefield V trailer called "This is Battlefield V" sheds a lot more light on what fans can expect from battle royale and the game's multiplayer content as a whole.

For starters, the trailer reveals that the Battlefield V battle royale mode will be called Firestorm. This is in reference to the ring of fire (as teased in a previous trailer for the game) that surrounds players as they duke it out. While PUBG has the blue circle and Fortnite has the storm, Battlefield V's Firestorm will engulf players in flames in order to eliminate them.

DICE also points out that the Firestorm map will be the "largest Battlefield map ever," also describing it as a sandbox that is filled with destructible buildings and weapons. Players needn't worry about getting across it, though, as vehicles will also be present in the mode. These will also help players to smash their opponents and their hidey-holes to pieces.

The Firestorm mode may be the biggest new addition to Battlefield multiplayer but there are some other substantial, quality of life improvements worth noting too. This includes the "revamped" player movement system which adds features such as the ability to backpedal while firing, sprint while crouching and slide sideways into a room. There will even be combat vaulting; given how long PUBG players waited for vaulting, many will be glad that Battlefield V is including amateur acrobatics from the jump.

Moreover, gun mechanics have been "re-engineered," explains DICE. The developer says that the weaponry in the game will offer greater control and precision than in previous titles. In battle royale games, where every shot counts and a single round could be the difference between a victory or a devastating loss for your team, the feel and performance of the guns are key.

Although the six-minute trailer is relatively informative, there are still major questions about Battlefield V's battle royale that remain. For example, will Firestorm be free to play, as rumored, or will it only be accessible for paid-for players? And when exactly are people going to be able to play it, as the mode is currently scheduled to release post-launch. DICE and publisher EA will be ramping up the promotional efforts of the game from here on out, so hopefully, fans will get some answers soon.

Battlefield V will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 20, 2018.
