EA Games has been one of the leading console game companies that have successfully transferred their titles to mobile devices. Games like Need for Speed, SPORE, The Sims 3 and Dragon's Lair have all received rave reviews, but what's the next step?

EA Games has officially announced that they will be recreating Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the iPhone, and it's scheduled to be released next month.

Bad Company 2 is the most recent installment in EA's amazing Battlefield series, so it's only natural that they attempt to take the game to the next level. The mobile version will be released initially for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and more than likely modified for the iPad later on.

Currently the iPhone is the most logical choice (based on system requirements), as this game will no doubt require a lot of resources. Although Nintendo's 3DS may possibly have some of the best mobile gaming graphics available on the market, there are still some faults that could prevent hardcore games from taking advantage of it. This is further reinforced by the recent news that the 3DS may not support the Unreal engine.

While Bad Company 2 boasted a great single player mode, on consoles and the PC, its multiplayer modes are known to be a mighty contender against the likes of Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3. Frankly, I would take any Battlefield Bad Company game over the Call of Duty franchise - simply because of the interactive environments. However, there has yet to be a statement regarding the inclusion of destructibility 2.0.

The mobile version of Bad Company 2 will have a single player campaign consisting of 14 missions with five different environment types, including a jungle and desert. Most important, of course, is the multiplayer mode. EA's release did not provide much information, and it would appear their screenshots only show the single player mode.

A quick analysis of EA's screenshots also show that you will be able to control a tank, and at least the side turret of a helicopter. Based on the HUD, there are several variations in the single player mode that will clearly differ from the PC and console version of the game. Rather than being limited to one or two grenades, it appears you can hold up to five at a time, which is strange because DICE regularly made fun of Modern Warfare 2 for having an unrealistic amount of grenades.

There may also be some form of level destruction as shown in the screenshots, but it's rather difficult to say if that was an explosion in a cut scene or a bombing run unrelated to the tank. Clearly there will still be exploding barrels though.

As an addict to the Battlefield series I can't wait to see what DICE has done with the mobile version of Battlefield Bad Company 2, but I expect this to cost around the $10 mark. What do you think about EA's push for high-end mobile games?
