EA and DICE have shared very little about this year's Battlefield title, which has been referred to as both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield 2021 in lieu of its official name (which hasn't been revealed yet). While some information was shared recently, with DICE promising epic-scale warfare and potentially hinting at a next-gen only release for consoles, there's still no sign of the actual official reveal of the game. With any luck, the wait won't be much longer.

According to journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, the reveal should be happening at some point this week. Grubb reiterates that he had previously said that the Battlefield reveal would happen in early May, which is right now. Assuming his information is correct and plans haven't changed, it would mean the reveal will take place within the next several days or so.

He added that the game won't be called Battlefield 6, something that another insider, Tom Henderson, has also claimed. Plus, given the naming conventions for the last couple of Battlefield games and speculation that the 2021 game will be set in modern day (as opposed to the last two games being set during the First and Second World Wars), it stands to reason that the new game will either feature a new subtitle or just be called Battlefield, so as to herald in a new era for the series.

Despite the lack of any official information, it's possible that fans already know a lot about this year's Battlefield, thanks to frequent leaks, most of which have come from Henderson. Some details include a more modern setting and a battle royale mode (obviously to help it compete with its biggest competitor, Call of Duty).

Funnily enough, the most recent Battlefield 6 leaks didn't come from Henderson, as two images that are believed to be taken directly from the announcement trailer were discovered on Reddit. Henderson himself corroborated them and claimed they're authentic. Surprisingly, the images were actually posted a couple of weeks ago and went by unnoticed.

Aside from this year's game, EA and DICE did also announce an entirely separate Battlefield mobile game that managed to not be leaked beforehand. There are very few details for that one as well, although it's described as being its own game and not a port of this year's one. Plus, it won't be releasing until 2022.

Regardless, EA certainly has something of an uphill battle when the new game does release. The Call of Duty games are more popular than ever before so it will be interesting to see what Battlefield has to help it stand out, convince new players to choose it over Call of Duty, and maybe even win over established Call of Duty fans.

Battlefield 2021 is planned to release this year.
