Following the final update to Battlefield 5 called Into The Jungle last year, fans have been wondering what the upcoming Battlefield 6 could look like considering the arrival of new hardware in the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Rumors and leaks have been constant over the past few months, with some even going as far as to indicate that Battlefield 6 could even skip the Xbox One and PS4 generation entirely. While still very much unofficial, more than a few fans seem excited by the prospect and not having the game held back by previous generation hardware.

Outside of a very brief teaser footage, almost nothing is known about the upcoming Battlefield 6. Most of the information players are clinging to have come from well-known leakers like Tom Henderson that include expanded destruction mechanics, a natural disaster weather system, returning to a near-future setting, and a return of the Battlelog stat-tracking system last seen in Battlefield 4. As excitement continues to build over unofficial news, Henderson is back again with even more potential details.

A multiplayer staple for the series has been a faction-based system where players join a certain side of the conflict during multiplayer matches depending on the location and setting being depicted in the game. However, according to Henderson, players will no longer be locked into a certain faction inside of Battlefield 6 multiplayer. Players will be able to pick whatever side they want which revolves around the core plot of the game that sees the United States and Russia hiring anyone with skills that willing to join their side of the conflict.

If accurate, this mercenary system should allow DICE to bring a whole host of nations into the game similar to Rainbow Six Siege, giving players plenty of choice when it comes to playing as the character they want. Some have even speculated that the characters could have pros and cons, making the decisions process matter enough to potentially impact gameplay. Whatever the case may be, Henderson also notes that the plot of the multiplayer doesn't extend to a potential campaign.

In fact, he goes on to mention that he's not heard anything about a campaign at all, suggesting Battlefield 6 could be a multiplayer only game. While there would be a faction of fans disappointed to not have a campaign, in this day and age it's certainly not unheard of considering that multiplayer experiences tend to not only be profitable but keep players coming back day after day.

While fans continue to wait for any sort of official news from EA or DICE, a survey may have tipped their hand a bit early. Released in late March, some fans were invited to participate in an optional survey designed to learn what sort of features fans would be interested in with the Battlefield series. It included things like a clan system, battle pass, maps that evolve, and more. While none of it confirms anything for a game like Battlefield 6, it could instead help EA decide what to reveal first based on what players like the most. If one thing doesn't score high, it may not be announced or perhaps pushed back behind another element which did score much higher.

Battlefield 6 is in development.
