EA and DICE's World War II first-person shooter Battlefield V may have only just launched, but the new game has already received a hefty discount. The price reduction is for existing players of the Battlefield franchise, to be specific, as those who've played recent games in the series can save a substantial amount of money on the latest entry.

EA is offering a deal that lets players of Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, or Battlefield Hardline can save 50% on Battlefield V. To access the discount, players will first need to launch Battlefield 1, 4, or Hardline.

The screen detailing the discount explains that this deal is only available for the Battlefield V Deluxe Edition which includes Special Soldier Sets (special cosmetic packs) and access to British SAS and German Fallschirmjäger right from the start. However, on social media, some have reported that they were able to use the deal to get a discount on the standard version of the game, too. The deal will be available until December 20.

It should be noted that so far, it seems that this Battlefield V deal is currently only available for Xbox One players. There have been reports of the deal showing up on PS4 as well, but these claims are thus far unverified. EA is working with Microsoft and Xbox One on Battlefield V's promotional content (Xbox branding appears in the game's trailers) and it also offers the Xbox One-only service EA Access. As such, it wouldn't be surprising if this is just a timed exclusive offer and that it will become available on PC and PS4 at a later date.

Battlefield V didn't exactly get started on the right foot. There was backlash to the game's perceived foray into arcade shooter territory and fans were concerned that the series was abandoning its realistic roots. As a result, the Battlefield V reveal trailer amassed more than 300,000 dislikes. DICE also confirmed plans to dial down the game's over the top character customization features (including face paint) as a result.

So with some fans still only the fence about the game, this discount makes sense. As the sales poster explains, this is to show those who've been "thinking about joining the ranks in Battlefield V" that "the time is now." It hasn't been confirmed that Battlefield V has experienced poor sales, but such a hefty discount could go a long way towards winning those skeptical fans back over.

Battlefield V is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
