EA and DICE's World War 2 shooter Battlefield V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Among other things, the game would feature the emotive War Stories campaign, frantic multiplayer and it would also offer its take on the battle royale trend. The game was initially set to release in October, but unfortunately for fans, Battlefield V has now been delayed.

In a post on the game's official website, Oskar Gabrielson, the general manager at Battlefield V developer DICE, confirms that the game has been delayed to November 20, 2018. This is a month later than its initial release date of October 19. Gabrielson explains that the choice to delay the game comes after the team received feedback from thousands of players who have taken part in the closed alpha tests and in hands-on previews at E3 and Gamescom.

"We’re going to take the time to continue to make some final adjustments to core gameplay," says Gabrielson. The team also wants to make sure it "really deliver[s] on the potential of Tides of War." Tides of War is the name of Battlefield V's post-launch content plans. DICE confirmed that it would be ditching the Premium Pass system in favor of making post-launch DLC (such as new maps) available to all players for free. It's expected to be a significant draw to the game, so it makes sense why DICE would like to work on that further.

Other changes detailed by Gabrielson include making "meaningful improvements" to core gameplay. Players of the Battlefield V open beta (which begins next week) can expect to see tweaks to gameplay tempo, soldier visibility, and there will a reduction of player friction too.

Fans of the franchise will be glad to see that DICE is taking their feedback seriously. This extra month will give the developer the time not just to implement these changes but to test them out as well, before making any necessary tweaks before launch.

But some will also note that this could help the game's sales figures. Battlefield V's original release date was just a week before Red Dead Redemption 2. Many games had already been delayed until early 2019 just to avoid the Rockstar epic and how it might decimate their sales. It has already been reported that Battlefield V has low pre-order figures so this extra time not only gives the game a bit of extra breathing room, but it gives DICE a chance to win a few more fans over as well.

Battlefield V will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 20, 2018.
