Now that you’ve most likely seen the first gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3, which made its way to the interwebs earlier today, you are probably eager to get your hands on the title as soon as possible. The good news is, you can secure a copy for yourself today since pre-orders are now live, and throwing down your cash now will also give you some incentives.
The pre-order version of the game, which is simply going by Battlefield 3 Limited Edition, will come with some free content to build upon the experience in-game. By pre-ordering, you will receive the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion pack at no additional charge – free DLC, the way we like it.
The expansion pack includes four maps from Battlefield 2, fully revamped with the updated Frostbite 2 engine with enhanced physics and visuals. Also in the pack are weapons and vehicles from Battlefield 2, as well as additional achievements, trophies and rewards to unlock.
Although the content seems to be recycled pieces from Battlefield 3‘s predecessor, it’s a safe bet that the intention is to show how much of an upgrade the Frostbite 2 engine is. By putting you back into maps you are familiar with and using the weapons from the last game, but having them totally reworked with the new engine, the enhancements will stand-out from what you know from the previous versions.
Battlefield 3 has the opportunity to take the helm as the top war FPS in the market. With the uncertainty of where the Call of Duty franchise is heading, and the advancements and promise with the Frostbite 2 engine, it will be interesting to see which franchise dominates later this year.
You can pre-order now at the EA store for $59.99
Battlefield 3 is slated for a Fall 2011 release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
