It’s been an uphill battle for Electronic Arts to win back over Battlefield 3 PS3 players after promising them exclusive content and then failing to deliver. Though an olive branch has been presented to gamers in the form of Battlefield 1943, there was another promise that had yet to be delivered: the promise of a more diverse arsenal of weapons.

That arsenal was to come in the form of the Physical Warfare Pack, a pre-order bonus for those who purchased the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3, which has been made available to all PS3 players today. All one needs to do is simply log onto the PlayStation Store and download the pack.

Included with the Physical Warfare Pack are the DAO-12 shotgun, the Type 88 Light Machine Gun, custom flechette ammo for the DAO-12, and a suppressor for the SKS sniper rifle. It’s a well-rounded package for the close, medium, and long range Battlefield 3 player. DICE does insist, however, that owning any of these weapons or attachments doesn’t provide a significant advantage in Battlefield 3’s multiplayer, it only gives players more choices.

Worry not Xbox 360 and PC players (who were thought to be the initial focus of DICE and Battlefield 3’s attention) the Physical Warfare Pack will also be making its way to your respective digital stores some time in the future.

On the bright side, though, the Back to Karkand Map Pack, which features not just four classic Battlefield maps recreated using the Frostbite 2 engine, but also new weapons, vehicles, and modes. So, if you’re feeling like your selection of weapons and gadgets aren’t up to snuff, pick up the Back to Karkand pack and get a significant boost in options.

Typically, when a pre-order exclusive is offered at a later date, the publisher charges a small fee to unlock either some new maps or, in this case, new weapons and attachments, but DICE seems to finally begin to understand how important their fans are.

Have you had a chance to download the Physical Warfare Pack for Battlefield 3? What would you like to see out of future DLC for the game?
