Battlefield 3 news seems to be everywhere lately. We know about the Frostbite 2 engine that will be powering it. We know that Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello thinks it will be “the best product in the industry this year.” But while talk is cheap, a picture is worth a thousand words, and we haven’t seen anything of the actual game in motion. Until now.
Possibly timed to take just a wee bit of the spotlight away from the announcement of the release date for Gears of War 3, the developers at DICE have put together the first in-engine, gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3.
At just 43 seconds, it’s not the longest trailer around. And many of those 43 seconds are black screen, or shaking, distorted footage that is tough to make sense of. But in those brief moments when it snaps into focus and presents a clear view of the action, look out.

Granted, not much in the way of story details are revealed, but the trailer makes one thing exceedingly clear: Battlefield 3 is aimed squarely at Call of Duty players, with an amped-up, all action approach.
Electronic Arts has been vocal about its desire to dominate the first person shooter market. They missed that mark with Medal of Honor (which is nevertheless getting another installment), and as popular as Battlefield Bad Company 2 was, it never came close to reaching Black Ops heights in sales terms.
Battlefield 3 could be the game that finally realizes EA’s ambitions for the FPS genre. It certainly has us excited, and you can count on Game Rant to bring you all the news on Battlefield 3 as soon as it hits.
