Now that Battlefield 3 has been out for a while, many players have poured exhaustive amounts of time into the game. As such, they’re probably ready for something new. The good news is, they won’t have to wait long. The Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand expansion will be available in December and for fans who pre-ordered the game, it won’t cost a thing. Those arriving late to the party will need to kick in $14.99, or 1200 MS Points, at the door.
Though the maps included in the expansion were revealed some time ago, and fresh Back to Karkand screenshots appeared just last week, Electronic Arts and DICE have now taken the next step and released a trailer for Battlefield 3‘s first DLC. Watch as four classic Battlefield 2 maps get a new lease on life, thanks to the awesome power DICE’s Frostbite 2.0 engine.

A post on the Battlefield Blog offers just a bit more insight into what fans can expect when the Back to Karkand DLC releases.
“You’ll also get to patrol the battlefield with your favorite Battlefield 2 vehicles and weapons, and the expansion pack also features the return of the exciting variation on Conquest called Conquest Assault (more on that later). And for those of you who love your persistence, you’ll get new ‘Assignments’ to complete for unlocks (we’ll talk more about Assignments soon)!”
Despite EA’s instance on the importance of single player in Battlefield 3, many fans persist in thinking of the game as primarily a multiplayer affair. Those fans are sure to gobble up Back to Karkand when it finally releases in December… unless of course they get side tracked by Modern Warfare 3, which releases next week. In any case, let’s hope that when Back to Karkand does make it out the door, it doesn’t cause the kinds of server issues that plagued Battlefield 3 at launch.
