The day the competition launches their biggest product of the year is the same day Electronic Arts shows off a little more of the first DLC for Battlefield 3. Modern Warfare 3 is now available everywhere and is poised to potentially bring in upwards of 6 million in day one sales alone, but for Battlefield 3 which released last month, it's looking ahead to the release of its first added content, the Back to Karkand map pack.
Back to Karkand adds four classic maps from the series, in addition to new weapons and vehicles for players to jump into it. For players who pre-ordered and/or acquired the limited edition of Battlefield 3, Back to Karkand is free. For the latest sneak peek at the DLC, read on for three new screenshots.
The three new screenshots are meant to exemplify that Frostbite 2 engine remastering of the classic levels coming with the re-released maps, but in reality they offer nothing new and nothing that we haven't already seen in the actual retail release of Battlefield 3. In fact, they're not exciting at all and we're not even sure why they're being released, on today of all days no less.
Take a look for yourselves:

Two vehicles with dudes on either side of the bridge. That's it. This isn't going to help the cause or entice anyone to purchase the DLC who doesn't already have the free access to it so for a legit and exciting look at the maps and vehicles, check out the awesome Back to Karkand trailer instead. It's actually representative of what to expect. The previous Back to Karkand screenshots are better too.
For those not in the know, Back to Karkand adds the following four map remakes to the game with destructible environments and all:
- Strike at Karkand
- Wake Island
- Gulf of Oman
- Sharqi Peninsula
It also adds five new dog tags, five new achievements/trophies, three new vehicles (DPV, BTR-90, F-35B STOVL jet fighter), 10 classic Battlefield series weapons and a new "persistence system" where players complete assignments to earn their rewards. Back to Karkand also adds another new mode, a variation of Conquest called Conquest Assault which DICE and EA will share more information on in the coming weeks.
The Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand expansion releases sometime in December for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
