The newest Battlefield title is just a month and a half away. In fact, the dates for the beta for Battlefield 2042 have been revealed and players will be enjoying the full new multiplayer Battlefield game on November 19. However, for many, the best game in the series was released a decade ago with Battlefield 3. And even with all of the hype and marketing behind Battlefield 2042, inexplicitly, one university still has an advertisement up for 2011's Battlefield 3.

The release date of Battlefield 3 was October 25, 2011, as it was once a behemoth shooter on PC, the Xbox 360, and PS3, alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Plenty of games have come and gone in the franchise since Battlefield 3, and plenty of advancements have come in the Battlefield series. One would assume that Battlefield 3 is long gone, yet the game apparently still lives on in some way.

Reddit user u/helicovsky recently posted a rather amusing image on r/Battlefield. Apparently, his university still has an old Battlefield 3 poster encased in glass as an advertisement. According to some follow-up comments by u/helicovsky, the decade-old display in the physics building in Universidad de Cordoba, a university in Spain.

The post itself has blown up, reaching over five thousand upvotes on the social media platform and plenty of remarks. Many of the intrigued commenters suggest that u/helicovsky steal the poster like a thief in the night, which of course the uploader says they would never do. However, a much more wise and mature commenter simply asked if there was someone they could ask to kindly take the old poster off the university's hands, which u/helicovsky liked the idea of. The nostalgia of the poster is a reminder of why Battlefield 3 is considered a favorite of the franchise.

Ten years after the release of Battlefield 3, the series is still competing with Call of Duty. Battlefield 2042 will be a multiplayer-only game this year, but there are high expectations for the title. Fans of the series think that Battlefield 2042 can go toe-to-toe against Call of Duty: Vanguard this year, and with its new Specialists gameplay, futuristic setting, and live service game set up, it appears to have the opportunity to. In the meantime, however, many fans can reminisce about the good old days of Battlefield 3 in 2011, a classic-style massive shooter experience that helped set the tone for what the series could be.
