Battlefield 2042 excited a lot of gamers with its reveal, as DICE seems to be doing a lot of things right with the next entry in the series. Alongside a massive player count and a near-future setting, the weather in Battlefield 2042 is being advertised as a game changer — though it may be changing the game too much.

Battlefield 2042’s weather events seem to do a great job of showcasing its destruction. Sucking up streetlights, vehicles, and players, it looks like they are able to tear through maps with ease. While many fans have been looking to experience this mechanic themselves, it seems like the storms in Battlefield 2042 may not be beneficial in the long term. According to reputable insider Tom Henderson, the spectacle of these moments quickly fades away after a few matches.

While leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, Henderson’s comments about these complaints could very well be credible. Henderson proved correct about several aspects of Battlefield 2042, meaning that he is likely right about the tornadoes as well. While players have admitted that the tornadoes are “fun and cool” the first time that they are encountered, they apparently get “very repetitive” after multiple play sessions. Apparently, they even ruin the experience in some situations, with the “flow of the map” being impacted in a negative way.

With Battlefield 2042’s destruction seemingly hinging on events like this, it will be interesting to see how DICE responds to the feedback. The idea that a tornado could cover too much of the map and distract from normal gameplay is believable, though, as it is easy to imagine a scenario where it blocks off an objective and ruins a close game. On the bright side, the tornadoes are apparently not guaranteed to appear, meaning they could skip over matches entirely. Still, based on these complaints, DICE may want to ensure that the tornado pathing makes the twisters avoid certain areas.

If nothing changes regarding these tornadoes, Battlefield 2042 fans could have more of a reason to try out the rumored Battlehub mode. Made by Ripple Effect, the studio that previously went by DICE LA, the mode is a “love letter” to old school fans. It will supposedly be comprised entirely out of remade maps from past Battlefield games, giving fans access to some of the best content from the franchise’s history. Assuming that the mode keeps these maps as they were and does not include the tornadoes and storms, it could be a good option for those frustrated by the weather mechanics.

Hopefully, the tornadoes will be fixed up prior to release, with the community’s criticism being taken into consideration. With the feature joining Battlefield 2042’s specialists as something entirely new to the series, it would be a shame to see it hurt the experience instead of improving it.

Battlefield 2042 releases on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
