It is no secret by now that Battlefield 2042 had somewhat of a difficult open beta as fans bashed the build of the game for its numerous glitches, cheaters, and for it straying too far from the Battlefield formula. In response to these issues, EA released a blog post explaining some of its controversial design choices and why the Battlefield 2042 beta released in the state that it did.

One of the main issues that EA addressed in its blog post was its choice to introduce specialists into Battlefield 2042 instead of making use of the class system like other Battlefield titles before it. Fans felt that the specialist system was not suited for large-scale battles and would therefore hamper teamwork. EA claims that the reason teamwork was hampered in the Battlefield 2042 beta was the result of its full roster of specialists not being playable as it stated, "you weren’t able to go hands-on with all Ten of our Specialists, and see them all in action on the Battlefield. Now that all the cards are on the table, let us know what you think!"

Although many would attribute Battlefield 2042's beta being an old build to its alleged troubled development, EA instead claims that the decision to use an older build for the beta was owing to it being more stable. EA also addressed other issues in the beta that were detrimental to team play such as the lack of a ping system and the ability to communicate with teammates in-game.

EA was most likely able to gain some insight into this criticism when it sent out Battlefield 2042 beta feedback forms to players, which is why it addressed all of the title's most pressing issues in the blog post and has plans to fix them by release.

The five new specialists are as follows:

  • Navin Rao, a support class specialist hailing from India who can hack targets and then kill them to reveal nearby enemies.
  • Santiago "Dozer" Espinoza, a Mexican assault class specialist with a shield large enough to survive explosions.
  • Ji-Soo Paik, a South Korean recon class specialist who can automatically spot targets and deal damage to them.
  • Emma "Sundance" Rosier, a French assault class specialist with a penchant for explosives and her wingsuit.
  • Constantin Anghel, a Romanian support class specialist who acts as a medic as she can easily revive allies and restore their armor.

These five new specialists mean that Battlefield 2042 will have a roster of 10 specialists at release with more to possibly be added in future DLC. The added specialists will likely add to the teamwork element of the game and players can only hope that EA means business when they state that issues experienced in the beta will be fixed by release.

Battlefield 2042 releases on November 19, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
