The gaming industry is no stranger to widespread controversy. While most of the industry's most notorious points of controversy in the last year have revolved around workplace harassment and gender inequality, there's still been the odd few instances of controversy surrounding an actual video game, and unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 is a prime example.

Released at the end of last year, Battlefield 2042 was panned across the board by both critics and fans. While the mechanics themselves were fairly solid, the game's unnecessarily large maps, its lackluster approach to the live-service model, and a severe lack of content disappointed many, generating such a high level of controversy that Battlefield 2042's reputation is now irrevocably damaged. But that hasn't stopped EA. Just a few days ago, Battlefield 2042 received a large-scale Season 2 update, adding a slew of new content to the game, including a battle pass.

Every Major Addition In Battlefield 2042's Season 2 Battle Pass

Launched on August 30, Battlefield 2042 Season 2: Master of Arms brings a new 100-tier battle pass to the game. Much like other live-service titles, Battlefield 2042's battle pass offers both a free and premium option. In a surprisingly consumer-friendly move, any unlocks that affect Battlefield 2042's gameplay can all be earned via the free battle pass, while the premium option gives the player a plethora of cosmetics on top.

The biggest addition coming with Battlefield 2042's Season 2 battle pass is a new specialist. Named Charlie Crawford, this new specialist is a former MI6 operative-turned black market arms dealer. Charlie's abilities, however, aren't nearly as secret as the organization he used to be a part of. Charlie's main ability is a mounted Vulcan minigun turret, with front and side shields protecting the user from any oncoming fire. Though its stationary, this turret is capable of shredding through light vehicles and infantry with ease. Charlie's second ability, Cache Point, gives any revived teammates extra gadget ammo. Both premium and free players will be able to unlock Charlie when they reach tier 4 of the battle pass.

Another major addition with this battle pass is the new EBLC-RAM vehicle. A four-seater jeep with a mounted gun protruding from the top, and a machine gun poking out of the front, the EBLC-RAM is a fast and hard-hitting transport, unlocked at tier 16 of the battle pass for both free and premium users. A new concussion grenade gadget is unlocked at tier 28, which should help players to daze and confuse any opponents on the battlefield.

A total of three new weapons are being added to Battlefield 2042 via its Season 2 battle pass. The first of these is unlocked at tier 10, being the AM40 assault rifle, a weapon designed primarily for close-quarters combat. The PF51 SMG pistol unlocks at tier 22, and is one of the lightest weapons in the entire game. Finally, at tier 34, Avancys LMG unlocks, which may just be the lightest weapon in its category but does offer reduced damage as a trade-off.

Of course, as is the case with every battle pass, there's also a ton of cosmetics to unlock. For those sticking with the free battle pass, there's over 20 cosmetic rewards to unlock, ranging from specialist skins to weapon charms and everything in between. For those who are planning to upgrade to the premium battle pass, there's over 90 cosmetic rewards on offer, including some highly sought-after legendary skins and specialist takedowns. Buying the premium battle pass will also grant the player 20 tiers of battle pass rewards immediately.

Battlefield 2042 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
