The reception to Battlefield 2042 has certainly been interesting, as some fans are having a good time while others cannot get over its many issues. Regardless, those playing Battlefield 2042 have been quick to share some constructive criticism, including a recent push for a medic-focused UI change.

During the game’s beta, a video was shared that highlighted all the missing Battlefield features in the latest release. While some were added for the full game, others were not, with many still being particularly critical of the game’s UI. While it may seem like an afterthought to many, every first-person shooter’s user interface is crucial to the experience being good or bad. In this case, the lack of info provided on the game’s HUD is making the game harder for medics, with players that pride themselves on reviving others having a harder time doing so.

While Battlefield 2042’s specialist system makes it harder for players to properly take on the role of a medic, some are still doing their best to roam the map and revive any allies that go down. However, unlike past games, players do not see when downed teammates are nearby. This makes reviving a whole lot harder, with medics unsure of where to look to find injured players. As such, Redditor Shiro_x3 is suggesting that the “nearby” feature returns.

In older Battlefield games, this UI element told players exactly where downed teammates were, allowing them to move directly to their injured allies. Hardly intrusive, this feature could go into the bottom righthand corner of the screen, with anyone playing as Maria or Angel being given this extra info and non-medics only being shown if an injured squadmate is close by. Not only would it motivate those using the two specialists to revive non-squadmates, but it would be a great help to those who care more about reviving than anything else.

With Battlefield 2042’s maps being so huge, it is too hard to find downed players without this UI feature. Part of the reason players will go down and wait several seconds for a revive that never comes could be that medics have no idea they are nearby, as they lack a clear indicator on their screen. This simple addition to the HUD would change that, with one small addition improving the game significantly for one group of players. With the post nearing 4,000 upvotes, and many of the comments shocked that DICE removed this crucial mechanic in the first place, it is clear that the community wants it to return.

With Battlefield 2042 fully releasing tomorrow, another batch of players will be hopping into the game soon. As such, even more people could soon be asking for the nearby list to be brought back.

Battlefield 2042 releases November 19 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
