A Battlefield 2042 player has recently discovered a Mirror’s Edge Easter egg in a new map of the military first-person shooter. The secret reference regarding the previous action title developed by DICE can be found in Battlefield 2042’s new Flashpoint map, and it’s tricky to uncover.

After its launch in 2021, which was generally considered lackluster, Battlefield 2042 has been receiving constant updates from DICE. New seasons introduced more maps, guns, and cool gadgets, focusing on improving the gamer’s arsenal and choices for multiplayer matches, which has been keeping the game alive so far, despite weak initial impressions. Season 4: The Eleventh Hour, the latest major update of the game, introduced the map Flashpoint. Set in South Africa, this map was designed around short-range combat.

Now, YouTuber DANNYonPC recently shared the Mirror’s Edge Easter egg in one of his newest Battlefield 2042 videos featuring content from the new 4.0.0 update. In the clip, it’s possible to see the player flying on a parachute in Flashpoint after dropping off from an airplane. To find the secret, they fall on top of a crane in the middle of the new map, which contains a pair of red shoes.

The couple of shoes in this specific location is a clear reference to the protagonist of the Mirror’s Edge franchise, Faith. Not only did she wear the same kind of red shoe, but also often employed cranes and similar objects to perform parkour tricks and jumps in the original title. Unfortunately, players can only keep hoping for the revival of Mirror’s Edge, and an Easter egg inside a Battlefield 2042 map is all that the fans will get for now. Despite being considered a cult classic back in 2008 and receiving a prequel a few years later, the franchise was never as popular as Battlefield. Also, due to its constant updates, DICE has its hands full with the new seasons of Battlefield 2042 for now.

2023 is set to be a very important year for DICE’s Battlefield. While Battlefield 3 and 4 were fairly big hits for the franchise, the following titles failed to garner as much praise from players, and with Battlefield 2042, EA is trying to undo the damage. During the year, the title will continue to receive support that will keep bringing weapons, vehicles, and maps, starting with Season 4, which is already out. Season 5 was already confirmed, too, but it does not have a solid release date yet.

Battlefield 2042 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
