For all its ambition and promise of a truly next-gen Battlefield experience, Battlefield 2042 has unfortunately ended up one of the biggest disappointments of the year instead. The overwhelmingly negative response to its launch can attest to the critical beating the game has endured in the last few weeks. One doesn’t have to search long to find something about it to take issue with, as one player showed recently with help from some exploding furniture.

Things have been rough for DICE’s latest military shooter ever since players first got their hands on it. While many have been able to have fun and even pull off incredible plays in Battlefield 2042, the general focus has revolved around its many bugs, some of DICE’s more questionable changes to the series formula, and various other kinks that have been pulling players out of the experience.

However, not every technical hiccup in Battlefield 2042 is detrimental to gameplay, and may even make things more funny if nothing else. Take this example by Reddit user OnionOnly. In a short clip, they stab at a couple of in-game PCs with a combat knife, and for whatever reason, breaking the computers causes the tables they’re on to shatter into pieces as well. Making this overreaction even more unusual is the fact that OnionOnly also tears up a book on one of the tables but that doesn’t break the table too.

Although it’s not exactly clear what’s causing the tables to blow up, the Battlefield community has largely been amused by OnionOnly’s clip. Most of the responses poked fun at the bug on display, comparing the exploding tables to the Levolution destruction system of past games, and jokingly declaring it an example of next-gen immersion.

A few, meanwhile, thought calling it out was a bit nitpicky, and to be fair, exploding tables are far from the biggest issue Battlefield 2042 is dealing with right now. That being said, others took the opportunity to once more express frustration over the poor state the game is currently in, with one person bluntly stating that playing it made them want to knife their computer too.

It goes without saying at this point that a lot of players probably feel similarly, but it’s not all bad news. As frustrating as it is that the game launched as messily as it did, DICE is working to fix things up as fast as possible, and will even address several of the more pressing issues in a new Battlefield 2042 update slated to launch tomorrow. Whether this will help salvage the game’s reputation in the long-term, only time will tell, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Battlefield 2042 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
