Battlefield 2042 is looking to up the player count significantly, jumping from the 64-player matches seen in the latest games in the series to a whopping 128 players. To ensure that all Battlefield 2042 lobbies are filled with the maximum number of players, DICE and EA have confirmed that the new game will use bots that they have dubbed "AI Soldiers." But these bots won't just be to help fill out Battlefield 2042 multiplayer lobbies.

In fact, Battlefield 2042 bots will have a number of uses in the game. For instance, someone can choose to play Battlefield 2042's game modes completely by themselves if they so desire and fill the entire lobby with bots. It's also possible for Battlefield 2042 players to play "co-op" with their friends, making it so their squad is the only player-controlled squad in a match while the rest of the players are AI Soldiers.

With Battlefield 2042's lack of a single-player campaign, this might just be the next best thing. It ensures that those who don't really care for playing with others in online multiplayer games can still enjoy the new Battlefield 2042 game to a certain extent. It's unclear if the game requires a persistent online connection, but if not, these AI Soldiers should also future-proof Battlefield 2042 so that it's still playable even decades from now.

Battlefield 2042's bots should be well-received by the community because all they really do is give players more options when it comes to how they want to play the game. However, not everything about the new game has been met with open arms. The aforementioned lack of a single-player campaign has upset some members of the Battlefield community, whereas others weren't impressed with Battlefield 2042's graphics as seen in its gameplay reveal trailer.

As it stands, it's still far too early for Battlefield fans to make any serious judgment calls when it comes to Battlefield 2042's quality. Like with most video games, fans need to actually play it before they can be sure how they feel about it, and luckily, they won't need to wait until its October release date to find out. Battlefield 2042 will have open beta tests prior to launch, which should give fans a much better idea of what to expect from the final product.

So far, fans have gotten glimpses of Battlefield 2042 gameplay, but there hasn't been a proper deep dive into what the game will entail. The EA Play event taking place on July 22 should have give fans a much more in-depth look at the game and its features, though it hasn't actually been confirmed for the show at the time of this writing.
