Batman: Year One will be getting a remastered re-release this year in the vein of a "Commemorative Edition." This edition will have special features in addition to a remastered version of the original movie that tells the story of Bruce Wayne's first year as the caped crusader.

This movie is based on the 1987 DC Comics series from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli and shows Bruce Wayne's return to Gotham City as he begins his war on crime. This will show his first year as Batman, which includes growing pains, learning lessons, and falls, as it's the birth year of the hero before he becomes the Caped Crusader everyone knows and fears.

Batman: Year One also shows the start of the Dark Knight's partnership with Lieutenant James Gordon, which many fans are familiar with. Gordon is already battling injustice prior to Batman's arrival, but his battle is with the police department because they're just as bad as the villains. Finally, this film also shows the beginning of Selina Kyle becoming Catwoman. The original comic book has inspired other Batman adaptations, with certain elements being borrowed for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.

Since this film will be telling the story of Bruce Wayne's early years as the Caped Crusader, he will be a much angrier and brutal version of the hero fans are familiar with. Because he's younger, he's a lot less removed from the tragedy that sparked his descent down this path, so his emotions are less in check. It's also why Matt Reeves' The Batman has a more angry, brutal, and darker Bruce Wayne who mercilessly beat up a masked assailant. Fans who haven't seen Year One can expect a similar demeanor here when it comes to the portrayal of Batman.

The decorative cast includes Ben McKenzie as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Bryan Cranston as Lieutenant James Gordon, Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff as Detective Sarah Essen, and the late Alex Rocco as Carmine Falcone, with Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu serving as co-directors from a script written by Academy Award nominee Tab Murphy.

DC will show footage at the upcoming DC Fandome event this October, along with many other trailers for additional upcoming DC properties such as Aquaman 2, Black Adam, and Shazam 2. There will also be plenty of surprises that fans will enjoy.

Batman: Year One will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on November 9th, 2021.
