Superman fans have been waiting a long time for a breakout video game that would star the man of steel, a game that would join the ranks of the hugely successful Spider-Man and Batman Arkham games. With Marvel’s Avengers still slated to be released later this year, it seems that Superman fans will have to watch, yet again, as another blockbuster comic book franchise makes its way into the gaming industry, without any major hint that he’s next on the list to get a big game. According to rumors that have been circulating for a while now, there could still be some hope.

WB Games had a press conference at E3 2020 planned, before it was canceled, and it seems that a path toward a potential, major triple-a Superman video game is actually more solid than originally thought. Although there aren’t any concrete details on the development of such a game, there are a couple of reasons why a new Superman game could eventually come out, possibly within the next few years.

Batman Game Rumors

Ever since Rocksteady Studios brought Batman to the gaming screen with its widely adored Batman Arkham games, people have been ecstatic to learn anything new from the studio in regard to its plans to develop the blockbuster series any further. Now that it has been almost five years since the studio’s last title, Batman Arkham Knight (excluding Batman Arkham VR from 2016), fans have remained ever-vigilant in the search for new Batman news, especially because five years is a good amount of time to develop a video game. However, with WB Montreal taking the helm on the Batman franchise, fans have shifted to other, bigger dreams.

One of those dreams is to have Rocksteady develop a DC Universe or Justice League game. This hope actually seems to be supported by a big rumor which suggested that WB Montreal would be soft-rebooting the Batman Arkham games in order to officially kick off a line of games connected to the DC Universe. With current reports that Rocksteady’s next game was supposed to be revealed at E3 2020, it’s entirely possible that the dream of a Justice League or Superman game could actually come to fruition.

The cancellation of E3 2020 has and will continue to cause ripple effects throughout the gaming industry, as companies try to reorient themselves in an attempt to stay afloat during the current coronavirus pandemic. WB Games will more than likely reveal the games that it was planning on showing off at its first E3 press conference, during an equivalent digital event that will predictably take place around the same time. The fact that the company wanted to hold a press conference at all speaks volumes as to the content it planned on showing off, meaning WB Games was planning something big.

Just like how Bethesda stepped into the ring at E3 2015 to show off its substantial upcoming catalog of major games (which included the likes of Dishonored 2, Fallout 4, and Doom), WB Games was planning on hitting the show floor with a bang, bringing with it a major new Harry Potter game, the heavily teased Batman game from WB Montreal, and the mysterious title that Rocksteady has been working on.

With the new WB Montreal Batman game all but confirmed to be centered around the Court of Owls and a huge (rumored) multiplayer mode, it’s likely that Rocksteady will continue the DC Universe that will be established in that WB Montreal game, fulfilling the prophecy put forth by Geeks WorldWide and fans online. Whether or not Rocksteady’s project ends up being a Superman-focused game or a game that encompasses the entire DC Universe, it seems that fans will finally be able to have a worthy Superman game.

A Superman game is rumored to be in development.
