After years of rumors, WB Montreal has finally revealed what fans have been waiting for - a brand new Batman game, Gotham Knights. The company has been teasing a new Batman game for roughly a year, starting with a symbol shared last September. Speculation for what the new title would entail has run rampant for years now, and fans finally have their answer.

The game was officially unveiled during DC FanDome, which brought a slate of new information for DC properties. Gotham Knights' reveal will likely be one of the most exciting things to come out of the show, as it features the Court of Owls as villains.

For the past week, the studio has steadily been teasing new information about the title, revealing strange symbols and portions of Batman's map, as well as hinting at villains like Two-Face possibly making an appearance. The new reveals were a big deal for fans, who been waiting for new information about the game for months now.

The game seems to pick up where Arkham Knight left off, according to the trailer. Bruce Wayne, apparently, is still dead, having sent a message to the members of the Bat-family, who appear to be the playable characters in the new game. Players get glimpses of Nightwing, Red Hood, Batwoman, and Robin in action, each with their own slight variations.

Finally, fans get to see the Court of Owls, seemingly the primary antagonists of the game. It's a neat departure from what the series has done before, and the variation between the playable characters should shake things up quite a bit for fans of the series' gameplay.

The new Batman game seems like what fans have been asking for, providing the ability for players to immerse themselves in the role of a superhero. The other entries in the franchise have held up well, and anyone really itching for a Batman game to play have options in the meantime, but the new improvements with Gotham Knightsat least that fans have seen so far, do seem like a good way to carry the franchise forward.

Of course, that all depends on how well Warner Bros. Montreal sticks the landing. After an entire year of teases, fans have high expectations for the next game, so it's important that all goes well. With the Court of Owls and other popular villains making appearances, it shows promise, but there are plenty of elements that could go wrong.

Gotham Knights is currently in development and will release in 2021.
