Ok, so this isn’t news for the other big Batman game that you’re probably looking forward to, but it’s still Batman news. And frankly, any Batman news is better than no Batman news, so just sit back and drink it all in.
That said, direct your seeing-orbs to the new promo trailer for Batman: The Brave and the Bold—The Video Game for the Wii. Sure it’s not the dark and brooding Bats of Arkham Asylum, but there’s no denying that the game seems to really capture the cheeseball fun of the animated series on which it’s based.
From the swingin’ 60’s background score to the overly campy dialogue delivery, developer WayForward Technologies, who has experience with animated properties having done the Nintendo DS interpretation of Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck, definitely has a handle on the general vibe for the game.
While the game does look pretty standard in terms of two-player beat ‘em up mechanics, the clean aesthetic and quick pace should please fans of the cartoon. I mean, seriously, if reviewers can get all gushy over the boring brick breaking-fests that are the Lego Anything games, Batman included, then there’s no reason why we can’t excited over a game that looks as though it might make good use of its license.
Hats off to WayForward as well for developing within the Wii’s graphical limitations. Instead of giving us an awkward-looking, off-putting attempt at bringing the series into the third dimension, it looks like they’ve delivered something closer to a playable cartoon.
However, to find out whether the gameplay is actually any good we will have to wait until the game launches, and we can get our hands on Batman and a host of characters from the DC Universe.
Ranters, what do you think of the trailer for the game? Is this a title you can see yourself playing?
Batman: The Brave and the Bold — The Video Game comes to Nintendo’s Wii and DS September 7, 2010.
