‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ Will Have a Season Pass

By | 2 years ago

This summer Rocksteady will finally complete its epic Batman trilogy with Arkham Knight, the culmination of a series that has set the bar for how to handle the Dark Knight when it comes to video games. The first of the series to make the leap to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Arkham Knight looks to be the biggest Batman game yet, serving up a fully realized Gotham City to explore, a driveable Batmobile at the Dark Knight’s beck and call, and a mysterious new villain determined to make the hero’s life even more difficult that normal.

Arkham Knight went through a pair of delays on its way to release, but it will finally hit shelves on June 23 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. For Batman fans craving the ultimate Arkham Knight experience, Warner Bros. has announced both a Season Pass and a Premium Edition of the game, both of which will add tons of DLC content to the already expansive core experience.

The Season Pass costs $39.99, which is a pretty sizable investment considering the game itself retails for $59.99. However, that forty bucks will net fans all the DLC released in the first six months following the game’s release. Full details of that DLC content have yet to be announced, but the Warner Bros. press release says it will include “new story missions, additional super-villains invading Gotham City, legendary Batmobile skins, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks.” The Premium Edition of the game, which will include the Season Pass, is priced at $99.99.

It’s good to see the inclusion of “new story missions” and “additional super-villains” on that DLC list, suggesting the Season Pass will pack in a substantial amount of content. Further story content is especially exciting given how narrative-heavy the Arkham games have been. That would continue the franchise’s tradition of expanding the story with downloadable content, following up on DLC packs such as Arkham City‘s “Harley Quinn’s Revenge” and Batman: Arkham Origins‘ “Cold, Cold Heart.” As for “additional super-villains,” they would further swell a cast that already includes Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Firefly, Poison Ivy, and the mysterious Arkham Knight.

The recent confirmation that Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin will all be appearing in Batman: Akham Knight also raises the possibility that they may play a significant role in the planned DLC. After all, “Harley Quinn’s Revenge” let players take on the role of Robin for the first time outside of the challenge maps. There is also speculation that the three characters may be involved in an as-yet-unconfirmed Arkham Knight co-op mode.

While the full scope of the Batman: Akham Knight DLC remains to be seen, there have been several packs already confirmed. The Harley Quinn DLC will let gamers play as the late Joker’s main squeeze during a prequel story, and will be available to anyone who pre-order the game. GameStop is offering Red Hood DLC as an exclusive for its customers, whereas Walmart shoppers will get a prototype Batmobile. On the console-exclusive front, PS4 players will get a pack of Scarecrow “nightmare missions.”

It will be interesting to see if all the various exclusive content will be included as part of the Season Pass, possibly towards the end of the six-month window.
