Batman: Arkham Knight Batgirl A Matter of the Family DLC Trailer

It may have taken a year of delays to get Batman: Arkham Knight on shelves and functioning (on at least two out of three platforms), but there are no delays holding back the game's DLC packs. The $40 price tag on the season pass caused a bit of controversy when it was first announced, but as the days count down to the release of Batgirl: A Matter of Family, it's hard not to get excited for the new content. Thanks to a prequel story, players will finally get the chance to throw down against some goons with Batgirl in the first Batman: Arkham Knight DLC pack.

A Matter of the Family will be available on July 14 for season pass holders and non-pass holders will be able to grab the content a la carte for $7 on July 21. The DLC description revealed that this add-on would focus on Batgirl teaming up with Robin to take down the Joker and save Jim Gordon, but the trailer offers us our first look at how that action will play out.

The Joker's creepy carnival throws plenty of goons at Batgirl, so that players can put the dual play feature to work in addition to Barbara's high-tech gadgets. The character's unique skill set in tech and hacking gives players another tool to use while taking down the obstacles between her and her kidnapped father.

Gamers who have been playing a lot of Arkham Knight probably notice right away that Batgirl has a speed advantage over Batman. The smaller character had a lot more agility and should handle quite differently, which will give the DLC pack a unique feel compared to the core game.

Thanks to the prequel setting, fans of Batman: The Animated Series also get to see Harley in her classic TAS costume. In the pre-Arkham Asylum setting Harley and Joker are side-by-side and causing chaos together just like they were when the character was first introduced to the Batman universe in the cartoon.

After some complaints about Barbara being used as a damsel in distress in Arkham Knight, it will be great to see the character on the other end of that role. Although it obviously makes sense that we can't play as Batgirl all the time, the prequel setting is a nice treat for gamers who are long time fans of the character.

What do you think of the Batgirl trailer? Are you excited to finally get a chance to play as the character? Let us know in the comments.

Batman: Arkham Knight is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and as previously mentioned, the Batgirl: A Matter of the Family DLC is set to be released on July 14 for Season Pass owners, and as a separate add-on July 21.
