After having to recover from several post-release issues ranging from the title’s PC port being pulled to its PS4 leaderboards initially being broken, Batman: Arkham Knight is still being considered one of the best video game releases of the year thus far. With the grand finale to Rocksteady Studios’ superb superhero triptych offering a solid storyline and refreshing gameplay features such as being able to switch between Batman’s allies mid-battle with a dual-play mode, as well as the ability to helm the controls of the Batmobile, gamers will no doubt be revisiting the streets of Gotham City for quite some time.
Additionally, if Batman: Arkham Knight gamers have already finished each of the main quests and nabbed all of the Riddler’s Trophies as the Caped Crusader, there’s always the option for them to play the fun, albeit short, Harley Quinn add-on. And should there be players who have hit 100% on all that the game has to offer, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is set to give fans even more content by officially announcing the release of new DLC featuring Batgirl.
The expansion pack is entitled Batgirl: A Matter of the Family, and will be available on July 21 for $6.99 as a stand-alone download. However, if fans have purchased Batman: Arkham Knight‘s Season Pass, the DLC will be given to them even earlier on July 14.
Batgirl: A Matter of the Family is set prior to the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, and allows fans of Rocksteady Studios’ insanely popular franchise to play as Batgirl for the first time in the series’ history. The story add-on offers up a fresh location with several missions, side-quests, and features, including a new hacking element to progress and solve puzzles, as well as the ability to utilize dual-play functionality with Robin for some skillful take-downs. Also, while Batgirl: A Matter of the Family has been developed by WB Games Montreal, all the rest of Batman: Arkham Knight‘s future Season Pass content will be handled by Rocksteady Studios.
While more in-depth details are scarce, it has previously been confirmed by Sefton Hill—Batman: Arkham Knight‘s director—that Batgirl is indeed Oracle herself, Barbara Gordon. Since Oracle is wheelchair bound throughout the entirety of the franchise, perhaps the new DLC will explore the origins as to how she became paralyzed from the waist down.
Although the reason behind Barbara’s disability is well-known to most Batman fans, for those scant few who may still be in the dark as to how it happened, it’s highly recommended that they check out Alan Moore’s exceptional comic book Batman: The Killing Joke to gain some illumination. At any rate, this should be exciting news for fans of Batman: Arkham Knight. Moreover, perhaps the new Batgirl content will be able to successfully combat the criticisms that the game has a problem with women.
Batman: Arkham Knight is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Batgirl: A Matter of the Family DLC will be released on July 14 for those who have purchased the game’s Season Pass, while the add-on will be available separately on July 21.
