Although Batman-related games like Gotham Knight and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are on the horizon, players will not be donning the cowl of Bruce Wayne/Batman. This may leave a void for many who enjoyed playing as the titular hero in the Batman: Arkham series or perhaps for those who preferred the combat found in the series.

Luckily, there's no shortage of games that can help fill that void. Nothing beats replaying the Batman: Arkham series to accomplish that, but at the same time, there are some easy recommendations for fans.

Batman: The TellTale Series, The Enemy Within

For those wanting to step into the shoes of Bruce Wayne once more, TellTale Games' Batman series is a good choice. The sequel is praised as an improvement over the original, and the unique twists and interactions between Bruce Wayne, his Batman identity, and even the Joker too all make for a solid story via point-and-click gameplay. What's more, the Shadows Edition combines the two Batman games into one, giving players new hand-colored gameplay and remastered textures, as well as a noir filter for those who really want to dive into that aspect of Bruce Wayne. Obviously, the gameplay in the Telltale series is nothing like the Arkham series, but for fans who loved how the latter dived into the psyche of Batman, the TellTale series does a good job of that as well (if less dark).

LEGO Batman Games

LEGO BATMAN

Just as Batman's TellTale series was among the best games in that style, so too are the LEGO Batman games. Many LEGO games include Batman to some regard, like the game based on the LEGO movie, but the core series is among the best in LEGO's catalog. LEGO Batman: The Video Game, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham all received positive reviews, if a little mixed in the case of LEGO Batman 3. Either way, they are fun adventures with players able to check out the wider Batman universe, not just through the eyes of the Caped Crusader.

Spider-Man Remastered/Spider-Man: Miles Morales

While Batman may be DC and Spider-Man is Marvel, there's no denying that both franchises have had a huge impact on how gamers (maybe even developers) see superhero games. For those who miss Batman: Arkham's fluid combat, Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 (or the original Spider-Man and Miles Morales on PS4, depending) are great choices to play in lieu of the Batman: Arkham games. The story to each Spider-Man game is enriching and any superhero/comic/Marvel-DC fan who hasn't played it is just doing themselves a disservice. The combat, though, is where the game shines in comparison to Batman, and while Batman is seemingly stepping into the shadows, there's not another superhero game out there right now that can hold itself up to either.

Shadow of Mordor/War

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor may be most memorable for its iconic Nemesis System, but without a strong combat system, it would have fallen flat. As such, comparisons between Shadow of Mordor and Batman: Arkham's combat mechanics come across as a no surprise. Both franchises are equally strong and share a ton of similarities, so if fans of Batman are also fans of the Lord of the Rings franchise, then there's not a better game to fill that void. And between Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, there's plenty of time that can be whittled away here.

No known Batman games are in development.
