Since Rocksteady Studios first dropped the bomb that Robin would be a playable character in the Challenge Modes of Batman: Arkham City, die-hard fans and curious observers alike have been interested. The main question had to be exactly how the developers would incorporate the comic series’ most overlooked and underestimated into their gritty, grimy universe. Now the very first glimpse of Tim Drake has been released, and it looks like we’ve got another big reason to get excited for Arkham City.

[Update: GameStop has released an official gameplay trailer for Robin featuring even more combat. Check it out now!]

We’ve been scratching our heads and wondering how exactly Rocksteady was going to make good on their promise to make Robin as cool as Batman, and the trailer is a good sign of the work they’ve been doing. This is just a brief look at combat, but it’s safe to say that the recently-revealed Nightwing won’t be the only partner Batman can rely on.

There’s no mistaking the fact that Robin has been given his very own form of combat, combining hard-hitting kicks and punches with his bone-shattering staff. And it will be a relief to those who were less excited about Robin’s new look to know that he may spend a majority of his time cloaked in hood and cape.

We already think that Robin will be giving Batman a run for his money in the game’s extra modes, but we’ll let you make up your own mind. Someone has captured the newest pre-order TV Spot for Best Buy, so go ahead and see if this brief look at the legendary sidekick offers something new:

With Robin now officially introduced, we can eagerly await any trailers giving a deeper look at the sidekick, along with Nightwing.

What’s your reaction to this first look at Robin gameplay? Think the new take on the old favorite is one that fans will want to see more of?¬† Leave us your thoughts in the comments.

Batman: Arkham City will be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 18th. A PC release has been delayed into November.
