Many fans of the Batman Arkham games are patiently waiting for the next game in the series with very little information to go on about what to expect. This leaves a lot of times for both players and casual fans alike to speculate on what could appear in the next title.

Since the Batman Arkham games take a lot of plot points and pieces of Batman's lore from the original DC comics, there are plenty of elements that fans want to see adapted into the games. With how long the comics have been going, there are of course a lot of characters and stories that can be adapted.

One of the more recent characters to be introduced in Batman's lore is one that a lot of fans would want to see in the Arkhamverse. Considering the events that took place in previous games, his presence wouldn't be out of place either. This of course would be Damian Wayne.

Who is Damian Wayne?

Batman Son Robin

Damian Wayne is the biological son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul and is the fifth Robin to be at Batman's side. He was trained by the League of Assassins and raised by Talia al Ghul, but left the League to join Batman as Robin at the age of ten.

While Batman had Damian under his wing, a lot of his teachings were about helping Damian learn restraint and not resort to killing like how he was taught in the League of Assassins. While this experience has a few hiccups, both Bruce and Damian learn from being with each other and eventually bond as father and son.

During Damian's tenure as Robin, he learns a lot more about compassion through Bruce and grows a strong affinity for animals. This even led him to take in a cow with a mask-like fur pattern that he named Bat-Cow as well as becoming a vegetarian. Damian also ended up bonding with the son of Superman, Jon Kent, and becoming his best friend. Thanks to his experience as an assassin, Damian can get overly arrogant and violent with his methods, although the training with Batman has helped him grow over the years.

Why Damian Could Appear

Fans who have played Batman Arkham City may wonder how Damian could appear considering the events of that game. In that game, Talia al Ghul does play a very prominent role in the game's story. However, she is shot in the head and killed by the Joker after she stabs Clayface who was disguised as the Joker.

Considering that Talia talked of creating a male heir with Batman in Arkham City, Damian was likely not born yet. Since there were no scenes that would change the game's rating in between this dialogue and Talia's death, he was also likely no conceived during Arkham City's events. This would make Damian seem like an impossibility for the Arkhamverse. However, there are two possibilities that could lead to his birth.

One possibility is that Damian Wayne could be created from Talia's DNA after her death and Bruce's DNA. Considering the assets owned by the League of Assassins and their influence, they likely could attempt to make Damian artificially this way under the watch of Ra's al Ghul. This would line up with his own wishes for a male heir, especially after his daughter's death.

Another possibility is that Talia somehow survived the gunshot. Considering that the cryogenic chamber in Elliot Memorial Hospital's morgue with Talia's name tag was empty in Arkham Knight, she could have faked her death. The odds of Bruce really being dead after the events of Arkham Knight are also low due to the new game on the horizon, meaning that the two could have met up again at some point and conceived Damian. And all of this is assuming that the next game isn't a full reboot either.

In the comics, Damian actually took on the mantle of Robin for when Dick Grayson became Batman as well after Bruce's death. Considering that Bruce probably faked his death at the end of Arkham Knight, it could be possible that Dick Grayson could've taken Damian under his wing in between the events of Arkham Knight and the upcoming Arkhamverse title as well.

How Damian Could Enhance the Next Game

Saying that Batman has gone through a lot of hardships throughout the Arkhamverse games is an understatement. Despite how many people he saves, he still is haunted by those he couldn't save and deaths that he feels he is responsible for. Having Damian around could finally help Bruce heal.

While Bruce was a father figure for many of his Robins, having to take responsibility for his young biological son could help him remember the good that he does. Teaching Damian about not using lethal force and being compassionate even when it's difficult could lead to an interesting story that makes the next Arkhamverse title unique.

Having Damian could also lead to Robin gameplay sections that could prove to be very enjoyable due to his skills in archery, martial arts, and swords. This could create very unique sections that are different from Batman's own sections. It could even be possible for players to have to quickly switch between the two in certain boss battles.

However, the most important part is Bruce's relationship to Damian. Other than him helping Bruce remember why he's Batman, it could also help Bruce remember the important parts of being a human being. Both Bruce and Damian have devoted large parts of their lives to being something behind a mask of sorts with Bruce being Batman and Damian being an assassin for the League of Assassins.

In the comics, there is a part where Bruce plays catch with Damian and the dog they recently got. Scenes like that where Bruce is able to put Batman away even for a moment would be incredibly important. Considering the end of Arkham Knight had Bruce fake his death, it's very possibly that he hasn't been "Bruce Wayne" for a long time, so doing fatherly things with Damian could help him become Bruce once more.
