Nintendo shocked the world with the announcement that Banjo and Kazooie, the iconic platforming bear and bird duo, would be coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. However, that may not be all the Banjo-Kazooie franchise has in store for Switch owners, as Amazon Germany has posted a listing for a product called Banjo-Kazooie (Working Title) for Nintendo's latest console.

Now, it's worth mentioning that Banjo-Kazooie is owned by Microsoft, and the likelihood of a brand new, full-fledged Banjo-Kazooie game coming to the Switch seems highly unlikely. Even though Microsoft was willing to lend Banjo and Kazooie to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it seems like the company would want to keep a brand new Banjo-Kazooie game to itself.

Even though the "Working Title" bit has some people thinking this is a new Banjo-Kazooie game, the more likely explanation is that this is for the inevitable Banjo-Kazooie amiibo. All Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster members wind up with their own amiibo at some point, and maybe that's what this Amazon Germany listing is for instead of a new Banjo-Kazooie game.

Then again, Nintendo has an established history of funding projects owned by other companies to get them on its platforms. Perhaps the most notable example is Bayonetta. Yes, Sega owns the rights to the Bayonetta IP, but Nintendo funded development of Bayonetta 2 and 3, making the games Wii U and Switch exclusives in the process.

It's certainly possible Nintendo has struck a similar deal with Microsoft, though unlikely. Sega is not competing with Nintendo directly in the console market like Microsoft is, and even though the two companies have been buddy-buddy as of late, such a crossover would be virtually unheard of in the industry.

There's also the Amazon Germany placeholder date for Banjo-Kazooie to take note of as well. The date listed is December 31, 2019, a typical placeholder date for a product that is expected to release in 2019 but doesn't have a firm release date. If a new Banjo-Kazooie game was coming to Switch this year, Nintendo almost certainly would have shown it in its E3 2019 Nintendo Direct.

While fans shouldn't hold their breath for a new Banjo-Kazooie game on Switch, it will be interesting to see what exactly this listing is for whenever the product is announced.
