When it comes to classic D&D game adaptations, Baldur's Gate may be one of the first to pop into gamers' minds. The isometric RPG helped to establish a trend in video games, bringing the spirit of tabletop gaming to PCs, while also establishing Bioware Games as a great game developer. Now Baldur's Gate and other Forgotten Realms classics are coming to consoles for the very first time.

All things Baldur's Gate will make their way to consoles, as Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. This release includes both Baldur's Gate and its sequel, as well as Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, which occurs between the two games.

The Forbidden Realms campaigns Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights, as well as Planescape multiverse Planescape: Torment, are also making their way to consoles. All of the games have been enhanced for console controls, and are set to release before the end of the year, with Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale releasing on September 24th, while Neverwinter Nights will premiere later on December 3rd. These games have all been enhanced for widescreen displays, with new character creation options, multiplayer functionality, and new classes to play.

For the uninitiated, Baldur's Gate is based in the D&D campaign setting Forgotten Realms, which also inspired the Neverwinter MMORPG. Initially premiering in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the games inspired a fevered addiction among players. The games also featured talent that would bring some of the biggest RPGs of the future to life, with Bioware continuing on to create great games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights also featured the talent of Jeremy Soule, the same composer who would provide the music for Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls series, starting with Morrowind.

Currently, there's no telling whether or Neverwinter Nights 2 from Obsidian Entertainment will premiere on consoles. It will likely depend upon how well these games perform on the console market. However, gamers will likely be hoping for them, as Neverwinter Nights 2 expanded upon its predecessor's gameplay and lore, and was generally well regarded by critics.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale will release on September 24th. Neverwinter Nights will premiere on December 3rd for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
