In a wholly unexpected move, a re-release of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was revealed just a few days ago. Despite the fact that fans only just heard about this recently, it's actually already out on PS4 and Xbox One. Issues with the Nintendo eShop are delaying the Switch version of Dark Alliance, but that shouldn't last for long. Naturally, both long time fans of the series and newcomers that have heard such good things about it are excited to dive in, but players may want to know how long they can expect it to take to beat before diving in head first.

It's important to note that this version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance appears to just be a re-release or a port. There aren't any new features or story content, so it should ultimately be exactly as it was before but with better resolution and on new hardware. Faster loading times have the potential to decrease how long it takes to beat these games by a small margin, but it shouldn't come into play too much.

According to How Long To BeatBaldur's Gate: Dark Alliance should take around 12 hours on average for players that only want to do the main story. At a brisk pace, this could be cut down to 9 or 10 hours, and players that are instead taking their time or struggling with the game a bit might end up closer to 16 hours. Regardless, it's safe to say that it isn't a terribly long game, but is by no means short either.

Now this is a different story for those that fancy themselves completionists. In order to do everything there is to do in the game, players will likely need to sink around 20 hours into the game instead of just 12. Like before, this is only an estimation and is liable to change depending on the player's skill level and the pace at which they play, but it should be mostly accurate. In general, it doesn't seem as though multiplayer makes the game take much longer, although it might get slowed down a bit since two players will have to sort through their inventories instead of just one.

Finally, it's also important to note that this is all assuming that players only play through the game once. While this is completely viable, players may instead be tempted to go back through and re-experience the story from a different character's perspective. Certain situations that were challenging for Vahn the Magic Archer might be a cakewalk for Dwarven Fighter Kromlech, but he may have more difficulty with fights that the Elven Sorceress Adrianna can clear with ease. The experience is noticeably different with each unique character.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is available now on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, and later on PC.
