It's been a busy 24 hours for Baldur's Gate 3, which has now clarified its PlayStation 5 "exclusivity." Baldur's Gate 3 was initially assumed to be a PC exclusive, but the latest development revealed players have more options available to them.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been in Early Access on Steam since October 2020, although it only features the game's first act. Content has been consistently added over time, and players don't have long to wait to get their hands on the rest of Larian Studios' latest CRPG. After Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios and Baldur's Gate seemed like a match made in heaven. While Baldur's Gate 3 has changed massively over the course of its Early Access period, the signs so far are looking very positive for fans of CRPGs.

It was recently confirmed that Baldur's Gate 3 would be coming to PlayStation 5. Without the announcement of an Xbox Series X/S version, many assumed Larian Studios would be skipping the console. However, it has been clarified to Push Square that there's no paid console exclusivity, and any version for Microsoft's console remains entirely up to Larian Studios. With this news, it would be a surprise if the developer decided to skip an Xbox Series X/S version, with the potential extra players too great to pass up.

Larian Studios' previous title, Divinity: Original Sin 2, was released on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so the company has experience with both. While no Xbox version is announced, fans will continue to speculate on reasons why it hasn't been announced yet. It's possible that Larian Studios is looking to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox Game Pass, but fans shouldn't get their hopes up about that possibility. Only time will tell the exact reason why, and hopefully it gets cleared up for gamers sooner rather than later.

As the game heads toward its August 2023 release date, news on the title continues to arrive. Just recently, Baldur's Gate 3 increased its minimum system requirements as the project has grown more ambitious. Larian Studios' strategy of only releasing the first act during Early Access could prove to be a masterstroke, as even players experienced in the game could have hundreds of hours of content when its reaches full release. The exact length of the game is yet to be revealed, although if Divinity: Original Sin 2 is anything to go by, it's going to be a huge game.

Baldur's Gate 3 launches on PC and PS5 on August 31, 2023.
