Larian Studios has announced the latest voice actor joining the cast of Baldur's Gate 3 is none other than Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs. Isaacs is well known for his role as the infamous villain Lucius Malfoy, which he played in six of the Harry Potter films. Isaacs is also a very well-regarded video game voice actor, of course. With an already exciting voice cast confirmed for Baldur's Gate 3, Isaacs is in great company as he takes up the role of Lord Enver Gortash.

Isaacs may not have voiced his Harry Potter character in any of the franchise's video games, but he does have a robust body of voice work for other releases. Some of his past projects include Star Trek Online, the role of Satan in the Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow series, and Mephisto in the recently released Midnight Suns. Perhaps Isaacs is getting a taste for video game voice work, with Baldur's Gate 3 just the latest title he's joined.

Announced during Thursday's Summer Game Fest event, Isaacs will be taking on the role of Lord Enver Gortash in Baldur's Gate 3. The trailer shown introducing Lord Enver Gortash reveals that he's a politician near to taking control of the city of Baldur's Gate. His rise to power isn't presented as being entirely democratic, however. It's possible that Lord Enver Gortash doesn't have the best of intentions for Baldur's Gate or its people.

The party of Baldur's Gate 3 is shown being introduced to Lord Enver Gortash and Isaacs does a very persuasive job of making clear he isn't entirely trustworthy. Nevertheless, in typical Dungeons and Dragons fashion, players will have to decide for themselves whether they want to make Lord Enver Gortash an ally or an enemy. Whether that association will last, regardless of players' choices, remains to be seen.

To be clear, Lord Enver Gortash is quite explicitly villainous. The trailer even ends with a reveal that Gortash is working with someone. That someone is General Ketheric Thorm, voiced by JK Simmons. Thorm is associated with a group named the Cult of Shar, but he serves someone or something of much greater power. Isaacs and Simmons interacting throughout Baldur's Gate 3 sounds particularly exciting.

Dungeons and Dragons is a game that lives and breathes through its vibrant characters, each unique to themselves and their fantasy setting. Baldur's Gate 3 is embracing that idea and is casting voice actors that can bring the story's key characters to life. As fans of the Harry Potter films' Lucius Malfoy know, Jason Isaacs is an especially exciting choice for the game. Fans will get to meet his character Lord Enver Gortash, soon.

Baldur's Gate 3 releases August 29 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
