The Early Access for Baldur's Gate 3 is approaching soon, and players will be able to get their hands on the third sequel in the popular fantasy roleplaying series. Several delays have pushed Baldur's Gate 3's release back, but now it will be arriving as planned with a new service that will allow players to save across different gaming platforms.

The developer Larian Studios has been building up Baldur's Gate 3 to be a bigger game than the previous works, and intends to show that with the release of the Early Access. The company has already confirmed the price and shared Baldur's Gate 3's minimum PC requirements with players beforehand. In preparation for the main release, Larian has created a new service account for the game, called the Larian Account, and it will manage cross-save compatibility of the upcoming RPG and any other future games.

The new cross-save feature is designed to control the saves on the gaming cloud system. This will let players transfer their saves across their different platforms they purchase Baldur's Gate 3 on: Steam, GOG, and Google Stadia. The company stated this account will be key to handling save transfers on any other platforms the game may launch on, none of which have been announced yet. With it, players can engage in cross-platform multiplayer, enabling a Twitch extension with Baldur's Gate 3.

However, the cross-platform multiplayer feature will not be available on Day 1 of the game's Early Access. Larian Studios enabled cross-save compatibility with its past game Divinity: Original Sin 2 on the PC and Nintendo Switch that was launched through Steam. This limited the amount of control Larian Studios had on the saves, so the company didn't have extensive influence on the transfer saves beyond those two platforms. Larian commented that the account service is new and still developing and hopes fans will help further advance its development.

The developer is counting on its relationship with the community, encouraging fans to make an account now, and are looking forward to the feedback. With the game's Early Access just right around the corner, there are many eyes on this anticipated sequel and Baldur's Gate 3's impact on the roleplaying genre. Larian's own director of publishing, Michael Douse, has already stated it will be a big game that's always growing, and the developers intend to grow it after launch with a "roadmap of features." The new cross-save support will be a fundamental part of the game's growth, and players will be able to find out for themselves what it truly brings to the gaming experience.

Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access launches on PC and Google Stadia October 6, 2020.
