When it comes to streaming and online content creation, the likes of YouTube and Twitch are powerhouses of online entertainment created by ordinary users. However, there is often some controversy that surrounds these platforms, particularly with the latter company, when it comes to banning users for sometimes ambiguous reasons. Recently, Twitch banned streamer Adin Ross for being seen streaming while driving, which is arguably a good reason to do so, but now it looks as though another user has been banned from the streaming service and from YouTube as well.

In a recent post to Twitter, Bafael announced that both Twitch and YouTube had banned his account. The reason given has to do with a video that was posted by the content creator, which goes back three years. According to the tweet, the video in question is related to a private server for the MMORPG, MapleStory. As these servers have some legal ambiguities to them in terms of their use, this is most likely the reason both websites issued the ban to Bafael.

Some on Twitter have suggested the user reaches out for some legal advice, while one person opined by saying that games such as MapleStory, which last year held a collaboration with BTS, should not have any issue with private servers. If they do, studios should be directing issues towards the owners of said servers, rather than the gamers who are using them, according to this person's opinion. Others have simply sent out well-wishes, hoping the streamer can get it sorted.

Twitch in particular is notorious for implementing bans. However, recently it was announced that the streaming platform would be introducing a three-strike rule, similar to YouTube, which some have suggested would make it less likely for people to be banned at a moment's notice. The fact that Bafael has become the next user to be banned for unconfirmed reasons suggests that Twitch have either yet to implement its new policy, or it's just not working. However, it could also be because it's not related to copyright infringement.

As of now, Bafael, who is mostly known for streaming fighting games, such as Street Fighter 4, is understandably concerned about the bans, especially given they stand to lose a significant portion of their income. It's entirely possible that Twitch and YouTube may resolve the issue and unban the streamer, but for now, it's another case of someone being kicked off one or both of the video platforms for reasons that are not always clear to the person affected.
