Turtle Rock Studios released Back 4 Blood last month and the studio continues improving the game. One of the most recent updates to Back 4 Blood improves the AI bots and unlocks all characters in the game.

Back 4 Blood has a roster of eight characters known as Cleaners to choose between, with several being locked behind a requirement to finish The Devil’s Return. The Devil’s Return is Act 1 of Back 4 Blood's campaign and it takes players across several locations such as an apartment, bridge, and an ogre-infested tunnel. Players would have to cooperate with others or group up with a team of inferior bots to complete this challenge and unlock the new characters prior to the recent Back 4 Blood update.

Unlocking the full Back 4 Blood character roster previously required the completion of The Devil's Return, which is itself a multi-act mission. Resurgence initially has players searching through an apartment for a safe room while dodging zombies, and shortly after escaping the apartment players come face-to-face with a large ogre that they must defeat to complete the storyline. Eventually, during the Pain Train portion of The Devil's Return, a path through the trainyard is blocked and players must clear the way in order to reach The Crossing.

Doc, Karlee, Hoffman, and Jim are now unlocked for players regardless of whether or not they've completed The Devil's Return already. This will allow all players the same level of access to the character roster, giving them far more characters to choose from in the pre-game lobby. Because each Back 4 Blood character features various outfits to unlock and offers something different, the addition of these characters to more players' rosters should improve the cooperative experience.

Back 4 Blood bots continue to improve with this update, including improved efficiency with defibrillators and adjustments to their equipment. Mom and Karlee's loadouts, for example, will no longer include pipe bombs if a bot is controlling them. Various parts of Back 4 Blood where players and bots alike would friendly fire by accident have been fixed with the recent update as well.

A lot of the quality-of-life changes with the recent Back 4 Blood update are aimed at minimizing the number of frustrating moments that players were encountering. The ability to choose any of the characters improves the new player experience, as does a change that brings new players directly to Fort Hope. Fort Hope acts as Back 4 Blood's home base and players who return to Fort Hope after a battle will now recover health there due to the latest update.

Back 4 Blood is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
