The upcoming co-op zombie game Back 4 Blood will see players pick up in a similar place as the Left 4 Dead series. This is in-part because Back 4 Blood is being developed by Turtle Rock Studios, a studio that includes developers from the original Left 4 Dead. The game features a lot of popular mechanics from that original series, and improves on a whole list of other features as well.

Back 4 Blood was revealed in early 2019, and has recently been releasing a lot of information about what to expect. At E3 2021, a bunch of new modes and the game's release date were shown. With hordes bigger than anything players ever saw in Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood has the potential to be better than its Valve predecessors. The new zombie game being published by Warner Bros. Interactive has big shoes to fill, but being available on Xbox Game Pass on day one will certainly help.

Everyone knew Back 4 Blood would carry some comparisons to Left 4 Dead, but it wasn't clear how similar these titles would be until trailers debuted. In its E3 showcases, players got a look at the hordes and special zombie types that would be hunting them. Some of the classic zombie archetypes will appear, such as the classic tanks and hunters, with new additions as well. The trailer showcases a zombie that extends its neck and sends out a loud noise to draw any nearby hordes to the player, known as a Snitch.

The new story trailer wasn't the only thing shown at E3. A new four-on-four PvP mode was revealed, Swarm. In this mode, players will also be the special versions of the Ridden, reminiscent of the Versus mode in Left 4 Dead 2. When the characters in Back 4 Blood are blocked by obstacles or zombies, they even glow with an aura that looks similar to the prior series. The team certainly learned a lot from their time working on Left 4 Dead, and have given players a lot of what they loved before.

What Back 4 Blood on Game Pass Day One Means for Fans

The Back 4 Blood banner is shown with an october 12 release date

Buying every new game that comes out would bankrupt even the richest video game fans. Game companies have taken notice of this, with some even offering cloud services that let players access a wide library for a lower price. It was announced at E3 2021's Xbox event that Back 4 Blood will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass the day it releases. This should strike a chord with Left 4 Dead fans, and may even push some of them toward buying the Game Pass service.

Back 4 Blood will be the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead that fans have been waiting for. It evolves on the previous game's formula with larger hordes and new special zombies. It will also take advantage of the multiplayer modes that were found in the original series, letting players see how long they can last against the horde while letting the other team play as horrific zombies. The move to Xbox Game Pass will increase the amount of players, so hopefully matchmaking will be better than in Left 4 Dead games.

Back 4 Blood releases October 12, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
