Back 4 Blood was released earlier this year to generally favorable reviews from critics, though reviews from fans were mixed. Most of these mixed reviews come from the large issues the game had at launch, and the problems it still has, such as the lack of support for solo offline Back 4 Blood progression. Although this issue will be fixed next month, that will be about four months after Back 4 Blood’s release.

Another large issue Back 4 Blood is having is in regards to the difficulty of the title, partially due to a bug that made it to where too many special zombies were spawning. Developer Turtle Rock Studios has taken to Reddit to address some of these issues still present in the game.

In the Back 4 Blood difficulty post, the developer brought up several points that players were finding frustrating in regards to difficulty, one of which is the bug regarding special zombies. Although Turtle Rock Studios believed the issue was fixed in the recent patch, it appears as though the issue still remains but the developer plans to fix it. The developer also acknowledged that there was too much trauma damage and has fixed it for online players. The trauma damage issue will be fixed for offline players in the next patch.

Additionally, the developer also commented on speedrunning decks in Back 4 Blood understanding that for higher difficulties, it’s almost essential to run this as the difficulty in the game is still too high, so it is currently finding a solution. Interestingly, the developer also mentioned a nerf to melee builds in the future, something that feels rather out of place in a post that revolves around how difficult Back 4 Blood is. Several fans have commented on the post in regards to melee deck nerf, stating that Turtle Rock Studios should focus on making other decks more viable before decreasing the viability of others.

As of now, the developer hasn’t shared a date on which any of these changes will be implemented. Back 4 Blood does have a roadmap, however, which states some of the updates that will be coming to the Left 4 Dead spiritual successor. Although this roadmap mentions quality of life changes and bug fixes, the specifics are not currently known.

Hopefully, updates that improve the difficulty of Back 4 Blood will be coming soon. As it stands, due to the issues revolving around Back 4 Blood, the player count has dropped to the point where there are more active users on Left 4 Dead. Back 4 Blood will continue being improved upon, though, and will hopefully be able to get back on its feet with some time.

Back 4 Blood is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
