With an average score hovering around the 40s on Metacritic, Babylon's Fall might just end up being one of the worst-reviewed games in 2022. The game has seen very little fanfare since its release, and its user base has continued to dwindle in a relatively short time. While Square Enix and Platinum Games have previously said that they will keep on supporting Babylon's Fall, they also recently realized that the game is in dire need of a major rethinking.
First released on March 3, Babylon's Fall is an action role-playing hack-and-slash developed by Platinum and published by Square Enix. The game was first revealed at E3 2018, and had quite the hype being another action RPG made by the minds behind titles such as Bayonetta, Vanquish, and Nier: Automata. Unlike those titles, though, Babylon's Fall employs the game-as-a-service model, and is currently awaiting a Season 2 content update.
In a statement posted on the official website of Babylon's Fall, Platinum announced that it is extending the length of the upcoming Season 2 update. The update will still come as planned on May 31, but it will now run through November 29 instead of August 29. The studio explained that while the original plan was to run seasonal updates for Babylon's Fall in cycles of around three months, the team now needs a period to re-evaluate the game's future operating roadmap, based on the feedback from the players.
Platinum also said that it will be using the extra three months of the season extension to work on the next update, meaning that Babylon's Fall will not receive any further updates or new content other than the ones included in the Season 2 update. To put it simply, Babylon's Fall players will not see any new content being added to the game over the three-month extension, but they will still be able to play the game as usual.
As for the Season 2 update itself, the team is promising numerous changes based on player feedback. Season 2 of Babylon's Fall will also bring a lot of new content, with around 80 new missions available, a new faction, a new pistol weapon type, and a new Sun element. Platinum plans to explain the update in detail through a livestream and a patch note soon.
Hopefully, the Season 2 update will have enough for Babylon's Fall to keep both new and old players afloat while they are patiently waiting for the next big update, which again, won't be arriving until almost the end of the year.
Babylon's Fall is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
