In only a couple of days, Mortal Kombat 11 will be having its week-long Halloween event, where players will be able to take on special themed bosses and purchase new skins. In the meantime, though, those who own a PS4 can currently download a free Theme, designed by popular online artist Kode Abdo AKA Bosslogic.

In a new PlayStation Blog, the Australian-based artist himself wrote about his own history with videogames and, specifically, fighting games. He mentions how Mortal Kombat has always been a "mainstay" for him, which probably explains why Sony and Warner Bros. approached him to create this exclusive Theme, which was done to both celebrate the release of the newest playable character - the Terminator - and the Mortal Kombat community itself.

"Designing this Theme was an easy process," wrote Abdo, "I started with the Terminator. When I think of Terminator, I think dark, post-apocalyptic world. I generally prefer stylization & simplicity, and I wanted the focus to be on Arnold." Apparently, Warner Bros. loved his piece so much that they commissioned a second one, combining the two pieces together for the final Theme. "I decided to make Scorpion the focus of this one, with Raiden and Sub-Zero featured as well. I originally had others in there, like Noob Saibot, but it didn’t work for the Theme. I love the distinctive, bright imagery and I wanted to capture each character’s personality using their iconic colors. My favorite part was putting Scorpion on a mound of skulls. To me, that just screams vengeance."

Abdo ended the post by expressing his excitement for the remaining DLC characters that are set to come out over the next several months - Sindel, the Joker, and Spawn. While fans are still anticipating these three fighters, a recent PC datamine seems to suggest that the character of Fujin will be added in the future, which has some thinking that a second set of DLC characters is planned.

The future of Mortal Kombat 11 is certainly mysterious, as series co-creator Ed Boon stated in a recent interview that this game is the "end of the story" but a big surprise will be announced next year in 2020. Currently, we have no idea what this surprise could be but, considering how MK 11's story mode ended, where the series could end up going is anybody's guess, with some thinking that it will lead into another series reboot.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available right now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
