The 7-day Awesome Games Done Quick speedrun marathon has officially ended. It's been a great event, with speedruns for games including The Outer Worlds, Marvel's Spider-Man, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Control, and even a two-player blindfolded run of Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!!. Yet while it's been a week of awesome speedruns, AGDQ 2020's greatest feat is its record-setting donation total. Early totals have AGDQ raising over $3.1 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

$3.1 million on donations is a staggering amount for the event. It's especially surprising knowing that the event crossed $2 million just the day before the end of the event's end. A late surge of donations, in tandem with a giant boost of over $350,000 from Twitch bits, subscriptions, and sponsor contributions help the show reach its final total. The previous record was from the most recent Summer Games Done Quick in 2019 but AGDQ topped that record by almost $100,000.

The sum is even more impressive when compared to the marathon's totals from its early years. The very first AGDQ in 2010 raised just $10,532. It would take until 2014 for AGDQ to cross $1 million and another three years to cross $2 million. But the event shows no signs of slowing its impressive growth. Between 2018 and 2019, AGDQ increased its donation total over $700,000. It's exciting to imagine just how much the Games Done Quick marathons can continue to grow in the years to come.

In addition to the impressive $3.1 million total for AGDQ 2020, the event as a whole reached an impressive watermark. Over the event's 10 years of marathons, it's raised an impressive $25 million. That amount is split between several different charities, though AGDQ and SGDQ have since settled in a single one each. AGDQ supports the Prevent Cancer Foundation that funds preventative cancer screenings and information campaigns. SGDQ supports Doctors Without Borders, which gets volunteer doctors to the places they're needed most across the world.

agdq 2020 final celebration

AGDQ is over for now, but it'll be back again in just under a year. The next AGDQ is already scheduled for January 3 through January 10 in 2021. That means AGDQ's sister-marathon SGDQ is just six months away. 2020's SGDQ is planned for June 21 through June 28. And there's always a chance that the Games Done Quick team will put together a special Games Done Quick Express in the months between. Speedrunners, clearly, are always willing to help where the opportunity presents itself.
