What is arguably the world's most well-known speed-running event, Awesome Games Done Quick, is officially live for 2019, and it not only has its sights on attendees playing video games as fast as possible, but also raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Starting today, AGDQ 2019 is scheduled to have folks speed run titles for 24 hours a day for a full seven days straight, with the whole shebang set wrap up at some point in the early hours of next Sunday, January 13, 2019.

The first day of Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 is going to include speedruns of such titles as Hollow Knight, Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and a whole lot more. As of writing, the speedrunners known as  "stew_" and "V0oid" are tackling the SNES classic, Donkey Kong Country, with many more games set to follow. Those who wish to dive into the event's entire schedule and plan accordingly can check it out in full right here.

For the uninitiated, Awesome Games Done Quick has garnered quite the following ever since its humble beginnings in 2010, with the event having raised over $2 million in 2018 for the non-profit organization Doctors Without Borders. While such a figure is certainly a laudable milestone for AGDQ, there's no doubt that the event's 2019 iteration is looking to at the very least meet, if not exceed its fundraising efforts from last year. Those who wish to donate can do so through this link.

Taking all of this into consideration, it's great to see Awesome Games Done Quick still going strong by providing viewers with plenty of entertainment and remaining rooted in helping charitable organizations at the same time. As the years go on, it looks as if live streams such as this are a good way for popular gamers and online personalities to raise money for those in need. The game streamer DrLupo can be viewed as a recent example of this trend, as he managed to generate over $1 million for St. Jude in 2018.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 is live now, and is scheduled to end in the early hours of Sunday, January 13, 2019.
