While not much is yet known about Avowed, many are eager to hop into Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming open-world RPG to explore what it has to offer. The attraction of a brand-new take on the world from Pillars of Eternity to delve into is enticing for many. Getting entrenched in interesting stories and deep lore are partially what make open-world RPGs so popular, and the same can be said for 2022's blockbuster release Elden Ring.

Fans are still waiting to get more clues on what Avowed may include, which brings to mind a similar situation for Elden Ring's community prior to its release. Before Elden Ring hit shelves, fans knew nothing about the world in took place in, and some took advantage of that. A trend of creating fake lore through memes was established, fooling many fans while acting as an inside joke for those who knew. Avowed fans have the opportunity to do this as well, but to an even greater extent, and it would be fun to see a similar culture emerge.

How Avowed Fans Could Pull Off Greater Fake Lore Memes

Before Elden Ring's release, not much was known about The Lands Between. This is not the case with Avowed, as the game takes place in the Pillars of Eternity universe. Both Pillars of Eternity games are known for their extensive lore and dialogue options, giving fans a wide range of elements to work with. Avowed may even take place in locations that long-time players are familiar with, making it much less mysterious than originally believed.

Because fans already have two games that take place in Avowed's universe, the potential for creating fake lore memes is greater than ever. With Elden Ring, fans could only create content based on what miniscule bits of knowledge they had from teasers. This led to very outlandish memes that could be spotted as fake by most fans. But with Avowed, fans already know what kind of world they have in store. When it comes to creating memes with fake lore, fans can mix in tiny bits of truth to blur the line between true and false, truly confusing those less familiar with franchise.

There are plenty of examples to pull from when it comes to Avowed's universe. For example, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 share the same protagonist called The Watcher, making it possible that Avowed could continue their journey. Deeper lore concepts such as The Wheel, a construct that helps make reincarnation possible, might be included as well. They could even make references to locations seen in previous games, as by mixing these known and lesser-known concepts together with inane made-up lore, there could be hilarious results.

Creating fake lore would be more than just trolling, it could strengthen the community as well. Fan-made content usually keeps video games relevant for years past their prime. Games like Skyrim would not be as popular if it did not have an active community on social media sites like Reddit and modding websites creating unique content. Though it may be a single-player game, interacting with a community of fellow fans is part of the fun. Avowed fans should definitely take a page from Elden Ring's community and begin fostering a light-hearted and tight-knit community to keep their game relevant for as long as they love it.

Avowed is in development for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
