The Avengers franchise had its finale with Infinity War and Endgame as the heroes teamed up to fight Thanos to not only save planet Earth, but also the entire universe. Thanos was unlike any foe they ever faced before, and in response, fans witnessed their favorite heroes get upgrades in weapons to enhance their power.
Even with that, defeating Thanos was very difficult. After the first battle, The Avengers took a great loss, but thanks to time travel and creative ingenuity, they were able to get a second crack at Thanos. Still, only after Iron Man obtained the most powerful weapon in the Marvel Universe were they able to finally stop him once and for all. Let's take a look at how these new weapons rank.
10 Captain America's Shield
Vibranium is a type of metal that absorbs kinetic energy. Whenever it is thrown, it gains power from the rotational force. If it is struck, it absorbs the energy and returns it back to the attacker. The shield appears virtually indestructible because of this attribute, especially since it took a full forced swing from Thor's hammer. The electric energy was dissipated out in all directions, but Steve Rogers was unharmed. However, it wasn't strong enough to withstand the fury of Thanos as his barrage of strikes penetrated through the shield, and eventually broke it.
9 Hulkbuster
Going up against the Hulk required heavy duty weaponry, and the regular Ironman suit wasn’t enough. So Tony Stark made this special “Hulkbuster” specifically tailored for the handling the big green beast. The suit is bigger, badder, and is connected to Veronica (the nickname for Tony Stark’s computer system). Backup technology is available to be sent immediately just in case. When an enemy gained control of the Hulk’s mind, the two of them battled it out and while the Hulkbuster took a good beating, Stark was able to knock out the Hulk to prevent him destroying the city with his rage.
8 Ultron
Tony's invention turned out to be a global terror that almost led to world destruction had it not been for the Avengers stopping him. Ultron is smart like Stark, and has super strength, regenerative capability, super intellect, the ability to fly, and can hack into any computer system. He also controlled an army of robots. In Age of Ultron, the Avengers had to watch their words and communications, because Ultron hacked into the internet and was monitoring the world. Anything they said near a camera or sent into cyberspace was quickly picked up.
7 Nano-Suit Iron Man
In the Infinity Wars, Tony Stark displayed a new improved upgraded suit utilizing nanotechnology when he fought against Thor’s henchmen on earth. His laser weapons can cut alien technology in half, and Stark is able to form different weapons thanks to his nanotechnology. When he fought Thanos, Stark formed a spear weapon and went for the kill, but Thanos countered it and instead used it to stab Stark, puncturing right through his suit.
The nano-fibers make the suit stronger and flexible. Flexibility is a new attribute as the previous bulkier suits had limitations. Still, even with this upgrade, Stark was still no match against Thanos whose attacks pierced through his armor.
6 The Vision
As smart as Ultron was, it took the power of Thor and an Infinity Stone to create a living body with Adamantium. The Vision has the Mind Stone in his forehead, and he can project an energy beam at enemies. He is more powerful than Ultron, and can lift Thor’s hammer, which stunned the god of thunder along with the other Avengers. Unlike Ultron, The Vision is not out to conquer the word but instead seeks to establish peace. Unfortunately in Infinity Wars, he was killed twice. First, by a fellow Avenger in an attempt to prevent Thanos from obtaining the Mind Stone, and then by Thanos himself.
5 The Eye of Agamotto
Dr. Strange possesses the Eye of Agamotto which holds the Time Stone. This enables the doctor to manipulate time, and gives him an advantage like no other. He can see into the future and create time loops that can trap him with his enemy. This is how he defeated Dormammu, by creating a time loop where Dr. Strange was continuously killed until Dormammu gave up and made a deal to leave in peace. The Time Stone was sought after by Thanos to complete the Infinity Gauntlet. Being able to wield time is a power like no other.
4 Thor’s Hammer
The mighty weapon of the god of thunder and lightning can only be used by someone worthy. Its name is Mjolnir, and it can only be used by Thor. Even the Hulk could not lift it, nor could Captain America. However, in Endgame, Captain American became worthy, and by wielding the hammer and his shield, he was able to hold his own against Thanos. The Mjolnir can disperse electricity to electrocute opponents. It also comes to Thor’s hand at high speed whenever he puts his hand out to summon it.
3 Storm Breaker
After having his previous hammer destroyed by Hela, Thor gets an upgraded weapon in Infinity Wars to take out Thanos. What is remarkable about this weapon is that despite retrieving all six infinity stones, Thor was able to strike a devastating blow to Thanos that nearly killed him. Had he gone for the head, he would have stopped Thanos. In Endgame however, Thor didn’t make that mistake again and decapitated Thanos with his new godly weapon. Thanos could be stopped by Iron Man, Hulk, Captain Marvel, and other Avengers. However, this weapons was still able to deliver a lethal blow to the intergalactic warrior.
2 The Infinity Gauntlet
Wielding the ability to manipulate time, space, reality, soul, power, and mind gives Thanos immense power that even the Avengers couldn’t handle. Even after Scarlet Witch killed The Vision in an attempt to prevent Thanos from retrieving the last stone he needed, Thanos was able to bend time and reverse the event of The Vision’s death.
Thanos then took the last stone and placed it in his gauntlet. Even though Thor’s new hammer is powerful enough to kill Thanos, the Infinity Gauntlet with all six stones is just on another level. With a snap of his fingers, Thanos wiped out fifty percent of lifeforms in the universe just like that.
1 Tony Stark’s Hybrid Infinity Gauntlet
Tony Stark learned from his previous battle against Thanos in Infinity War, and built in a hybrid system into his armor that allowed him to utilize the Infinity Stones just like the Infinity Gauntlet. While it was expected that Thanos would once again wield the Infinity Gauntlet, he was in disbelief to see Stark with stones embedded in his upgraded hand. With a snap of his fingers, Stark was able to undo the destruction caused by Thanos and wipe Thanos out from existence along with his army. However, it came at a great price — Tony Stark’s life.
The Avenger movie franchise featured various weapons with amazing abilities. Who knows what fans will see in the next movie. Fans were expecting to see Iron Man’s Proton Cannon, but now that Stark is dead and Captain America retired, it is unclear where what direction future movies will head in.
