When it was announced that Square Enix and Marvel were teaming up to deliver a new Avengers game, commonly referred to as The Avengers Projectfans of the longstanding comic franchise were ecstatic to say the least. Currently, very little is known about the project, but new rumors indicate that it could, in fact, be a reboot of the Ultimate Alliance video games.

These rumors also suggest that a catastrophic event results in the separation of the heroes, without yet another Civil War plot taking place. Many thought that the teaser trailer (depicted below) suggested a Civil War-inspired story, but this rumor indicates that #REASSEMBLE means a reunification of the team following said event during The Avengers Project. However, that's not to say the story wouldn't follow a comic run altogether, just not Civil War.

Moreover, the story is supposedly focusing on Captain America, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch. While other heroes could be playable in an Ultimate Alliance style, these three characters supposedly drive the story forward, and this rumor is seemingly supported by the voice of Scarlet Witch in the trailer that released some time ago.

Of course, until there is some form of official confirmation from Square Enix or Marvel, these rumors should be taken with a healthy grain of salt. It would be hard-pressed to either prove or disprove these rumors, as they are seemingly supported by the teaser. While many may believe that Square Enix is focusing on Kingdom Hearts 3 releasing this year, it would be surprising not to hear something new about The Avengers Project.

After all, Square Enix is hosting an E3 conference this year, which may very well focus on both Kingdom Hearts 3 and The Avengers Project. For those interested in checking out Square Enix's conference, it will be taking place Monday, June 11, beginning at 10 am PST, 1 pm EST, 6 pm BST, and 7 pm CEST. It's worth noting, however, that The Avengers Project isn't confirmed to be there. Hopefully, though, something will be learned then.

The Avengers Project is in development for unspecified platforms.
