When Phase 4 of the MCU was announced, it was already packed with tons of exciting projects, both with the movies and with the new Disney Plus shows. Since that initial announcement, there have been even more additions to the Phase 4 slate, from exploring new heroes like Shang-Chi to bringing back fan-favorites like Thor in Love and Thunder. But one project was missing that many fans had expected to see – a new Avengers movie.

From the beginning of the MCU, there has always been an Avengers team-up event to cap off each phase of the cinematic universe. With no fifth Avengers movie announced as of yet, Collider asked Marvel boss Kevin Feige if and when fans can expect the next adventure with Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Understandably, Feige revealed that they needed "a reasonable amount of time" for the MCU to move past the events of Avengers: Endgame before bringing everyone together again.

Though Feige's comments make it clear that there is the intention to eventually do The Avengers 5, it will be a while yet. He pointed to the events of Phase 1 of the MCU and how the heroes needed to be established and the universe to build before the original Avengers team assembled. With so many changes and new elements being introduced in Phase 4, Feige feels like there will need to be a similar build-up.

The Avengers prepare for the Battle of New York

While there is no official team-up movie in the cards for Phase 4, some of the projects will see various heroes coming together. Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature Doctor Strange and many other rumored characters. Scarlet Witch will in turn join Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Furthermore, Thor 4 will feature the Guardians of the Galaxy to some degree.

The Avengers movies have been a staple of the MCU and arguably the reason the cinematic universe has been so popular. Many fans see the other movies as the stepping stone to the big events where it all comes together, so for Phase 4 to not include a team-up seems like a big risk. However, Feige's decision to wait for Avengers 5 is a smart one. Avengers: Endgame was such a massive event that it seemed impossible to top. So far Phase 4 has gone another way in exploring overlooked characters and setting the stage for the multiverse.

By the end of Phase 4, the MCU is going to have a lot of new characters, from Moon Knight to She-Hulk. Aside from that, established heroes like Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel have shared no screentime together, so it is asking a lot to cram all these characters into a team together. Fans can rest assured that there will be a new Avengers movie someday and when that day comes it will be a very different-looking MCU.

The Avengers films are now available on Disney Plus.
