Aven Colony is all about building and managing a city, ensuring that as many people as possible are happy and have jobs. It is similar in structure to the Sim City series, though has its own differences to set it apart, such as being set in a space environment.

Although players of Sim City or any games in that franchise may have an easier time getting used to Aven Colony's learning curve, there are also many others who may end up completely lost or stuck along the way. For these players, here are some beginner tips to know before getting properly started.

7 Ensure That There Are Always Jobs Filled

There are multiple meters that a player needs to keep their eyes on during gameplay. One of these is the number of jobs that people in the player's city are able to fill out. This meter tells the player the percentage of people who are employed in their city.

Luckily, the employment meter is one of the easiest to fill up. Players will not have that difficult of a time ensuring that their citizens are constantly employed. Making sure that the employment meter is at least 80% filled is will be relatively easy.

6 Work On Infrastructure Before Morale

Although ensuring that the city's morale is high may seem like the highest priority, players have figured out that one does not need to worry too much about morale until they get their city to a certain population. Players can therefore focus on other aspects of the city, before they worry about morale.

In the meantime, the player can focus on their infrastructure. Until a player is able to get about a hundred citizens, all they have to worry about is building and expanding the city. Higher priorities include making sure that there are jobs to be filled, or ensuring that there are enough houses for the amount of people living in the city.

5 Take it Slow

There are multiple options that players can choose regarding how fast a colony builds. However, unless a player knows for certain that their city will not flounder if it is sped up for a bit, they should not enable any of the faster options.

It is much better for players to maintain real time control over the city. This way, the player can immediately spot, for example, where the city is lacking in something. They can then correct it before the problem gets too big. It will be much easier to fix a small problem than a large one.

4 Use Geothermal Power

There are multiple types of power that players can harness in order to keep their city trucking for as long as possible. One of these power types is geothermal power, which is by far one of the best types to use in the player's simulation.

Geothermal power is the best because it can be utilized even in the winter. On top of that, un-built geothermal springs can spray toxic gas that can be harmful to one's colony. Building plants on them will prevent that.

3 Play Through The Campaign

Of course, one of the best ways for a player to get experience is to simply play through the campaign of Aven Colony. In doing so, a player will learn more about the game and how different functions work.

Players will learn through experience while also going through the story of the game. This will help players get used to the mechanics and controls, such as knowing what kinds of energy plants to put where, and what kind of scenarios they would be useful in.

2 Listen To Advisors

If a player gets stuck in trying to figure out what their next plan is, they can listen to their advisors and go from there. Players will have five advisor NPCs (Veronika, Jack, Uros, Kalandra and Vory), who will be able to give the player objectives and missions to go through during this building game.

Although players are not required to listen to the advisors when it comes to building the colony, those who are stuck on what to do next can follow what objectives their advisors give. It could set them back on the right path, such as helping them raise the morale of the civilians or making sure there are more jobs to take.

1 Perfection Is Impossible

A player should not aim for an absolutely perfect city, where nothing goes wrong and there are no mistakes that must be corrected. Although a player should aim to keep their city in peak condition, having a completely flawless city is impossible.

A player should not be too worried about perfection, and should be easy on themselves about making mistakes. Mistakes are bound to happen, and they not something for a player to stress over, as they cannot be avoided. Instead, a player should learn how to roll with the punches, and simply make their city the best it can be.

Aven Colony is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
